cos of the plastic tank i have seen some tie on ones that look a lot scratchy at gereke
plus its not the best of shapes for the holders
not keen on road books cos you have to plan in advance dont/ wont use a tank bag ...
anyone thats found a way round it not involving gaffa tape ...please tell

Oxford

i found one one ebay (Firrest edge retail) was the seller. £20 for an Oxford basic (1 series). It is quite dinky only about 16 - 18 litres, but enough for my waterproofs and a sarny and mars bar.

The map pocket is a bit on the small side. I have had to take the ring binder off my Motrax waterproof map to get it to fit in the pocket.

But for £20 it suits my needs nicely.

My Garmin 2610 holds loads of maps & tells me where to go as I`m sure you will! :D sorry!

Any time I`ve used a map on a bike I`ve got one of the cheapy plastic map holders from an outdoor shop & just taped it to the tank.

I've seen map holders with rubber suction stickers on BMs and the guy said he got it from his local BM dealer (Pidcocks, I think).
It seemed to work OK and remained on the bike at some quite impressive speeds.
I've just bought a £15.95 road book holder, cheap and plasticy but just clips to the bars and takes A4 sheets, got it from http://www.oldbikeshop.com/catlist.asp?item=Accessories
I don't like tank bags so thought I'd give this a try but it won't take a map so preparation is still needed.

I had the same problem. I bought a strap-on base from Touratech that has velcro on the top. Then cut the magnetic "ears" off an old Oxford magentic map holder, stuck some self-adhesive velcro on the bottom and it fits neatly on the TT base. Have not ridden with it yet, but it looks like it will work fine, and achieves my objective of not having to resort to a tank-bag.

Suction Pads

I managed to find an Oxford map holder that sticks on with suction pads - four at the corners and one at the back to allow access. Not very big, but OK if you're planning on stopping regularly, and has stayed on at high speed with no problem (blasts up to 140 on a German autobahn, where I was so much more worried about things other than my maps getting lost, but whole days at around 100 on motorways elsewhere). That was on a 1200RS, but has been fine for th elast twp years on an 1150GS.

I've never seen one of these before or since. I'd love to know where I can get another, as the suckers on mine are getting brittle with age - one has bust already.

Heni Gericke bag looks like the thing to have, though.

Robin.

I was thinking about one of the Touratech handle bar bags, but think it might damage the paint. Mind you maybe the paint will be better than on the SV...but probably not.

I might like a GPS, probably wouldnt learn how to use it tho. TBH I like maps, looking at the terrain, deciding on which way to go etc. Not sure GPS will do it for me.

seen this
let you know how i get on bit pricy at 34 dubloons but going to give it a try apparently you can see 9x 5 ins of the map in the closed position and open it up for the bigger picture so to speak
will come in for the drz anyway

I like that. Its similar to the TT one (of which theres only a drawing so its hard to see what its like). Like the way it has a little storage too. I guess something soft could be attached to the back to stop rubbing. May get one of those!

Wife has had similar probs finding a map holder for her fireblade. There is a suction cup map holder advertised in the current Demon Tweekes catalogue. Don't know how well it works as she went for a Baglux cover and map pocket!

Mapcase

Hey,

New member, 1st post.

I bought the Touratech Mapcase: velcro, TT pn 055-0073, $29.10, and the Touratech mapcase harness:base plate, strap on, 055-0071, $25.20, from CycoActive. Nice large mapcase and a solid mount, without a tank bag.
