Hi

I am planning a trip to northern France in may next year and wanted to know if any one could suggest a good detailed map of the around Lille and the northern coast. I am particular wanting to find 1st and 2nd ww sites.

Thanks

Graham

If you know where the sites are that you want to visit already, then Michelin's 1:200000 scale map will do you fine.

If you don't know which sites you want to visit or where they are, you'll have to do some more research and then buy the Michelin map.

Ahead of May next year....

I have dug out what will probably answer all your questions.

Pick up a copy of Michelin's excellent road atlas: 'Cemeteries & Memorials in Belgium & Northern France', published by Michelin in association with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. ISBN 978-2-06-714046-2

I see mine cost me €10 probably from somewhere in France.

You can get one with no difficulty, here: http://www.cwgc.org/learning-and-resources/publications/items-for-sale.aspx

:blast May NEXT YEAR ?? :nenau :augie

Michelin yellow 236 France Nord Flandres/Artois/Picardie will do nicely.

And you've got over 13 months to source one. :D

This may or may not be of interest to regular visitors to France/users of paper maps, but the new Michelin Atlas I bought today includes a little QR bar code at the top of each page. The blurb on the back cover tells me that these are

Des pages "Plans de Ville" hyper-pratiques avec la carte des environs, le plan du centre-ville et un QR Code pour vous piloter sur les derniers kilomètres grâce à votre smartphone!

or, in English, "hyper-practical town plans with a map of the area, plan of the city center and a QR code to pilot you over the last kilometres via your smartphone!"

Of course, I had to try it out ... Hopefully from the photo you can see the sort of information that may be available from the little icons that appear at the bottom of the screen. Could be useful. May be? :thumby:

An excellent map.
I picked up a copy from the visitors centre at the Theipval memorial, it gives the ability to cross reference sites, with enough detail on the maps for it to be the only map you need

Now, you've reminded me, that's where I got it from. We went on a Wander to Albert, stopping off there on the Sunday.
