Some help needed for a numpty here.

I’ve been using Mapsource for a number of years, but now feel the need to move on. I’ve downloaded BaseCamp and have started the familiarisation process. However, I seem to have a problem understanding how POI’s are transferred to my Zumo.

In Mapource I have about 480 POI’s in 15 gpx files in a folder I call ‘Custom POI’. I use POI Loader to transfer this folder to my Zumo SD card. When I start my Zumo I click: Where to?/extras/ Custom POIs, and all my POI’s are neatly arranged in their 15 files just as they left my computer. Magic! :JB

In BaseCamp, under the folder ‘My Collection’ I’ve set up another folder called POI List, and I’ve imported my 15 gpx files. However, when I click ‘send to device’ all my POI’s finish up as 480 separate items in ‘Favourites’ which I find a bit of a pain as I then have to scroll through them all to find the one I want.

Is there a way that I can keep my POI’s in BaseCamp as I do in Mapsource?
Also, how do I save a file as a gpx file in BaseCamp? Mine just seem to use the gdb format.

All help would be greatly appreciated :thumb

Are you on PC or Mac ? Basecamp does everything that Mapsource does (except post code search), plus more and just behaves differently.
Save all your favourite routes in a folder and continue to use that folder as your data source.
You can then import into Basecamp or export back to that folder. When exporting, you have a select option, default is gpx but you can choose gdb.

Basecamp works in 'Lists', which, when highlighted, show the waypoints bottom left. Once your sumo or Nuvi is connected, you just use the 'Transfer' option to send the list to the device

It'll take some learning and nows a good time to start:D
For Mac users, there is now cloud storage available in the new Basecamp release

Thanks GrinningGSer, but not sure if I fully understand.

I’m on a PC. I understand the bit about ‘Lists’ and I’m OK transferring to my Zumo 550, - but what’s going wrong with my POI’s? Instead of being in folders in ‘Extras’ – they’re all lumped together in ‘Favourites’

I'll try and help but I'm not understanding your predicament. You have your waypoints saved in a gdb file eh ? I am not sure if you can save waypoints individually unless you've saved each waypoint as a gdb file? I have each gdb file containing loads of waypoints and you simply import the gdb and you'll see all of the waypoints in that file listed bottom left. You can easily select and copy any of those waypoints and paste into another List and later export for saving as a gpx or gdb OR transfer to your device. Perhaps I'm not explaining it clearly?
There must be zillions of you tubes which will also help if my explanation isn't clear

Thanks for all the help, assistance, and advice GrinningGSer. :thumby:

I’m not sure I’ve fully understood everything, but with your help I’ve cracked the problem. :JB

I created a List/Folder in BaseCamp for each group of POI’s, - Airports, Sea Ports, Hotels, etc. Into each List/Folder I then saved a gpx file which contained all the detail. I then exported these files into my PC into a directory I called ‘POI List’. I then used POI Loader to transfer to the SD card in my Zumo. Everything is now as it was in Mapsource.

Aah! – the joys of learning a new software program and banging your head on a wall! :D

Zumo 350 and "locations"

After many happy years using my 2 Quests I have finally given in and bought a Zumo 350LM.
Like many others, I'm having the odd problem trying to become familiar with both the new Zumo AND Basecamp - too many new things at once:rob
As others have said, most of it is the same - just different:eek
My problem at the moment is that after transfering all my old "locations" from both my Quests into Basecamp ( no problem there - easy) I tidied them up a bit & then transfered them to the Zumo stored data -again no problem I thought. If I then click on Zumo stored data the map changes to the map showing all "locations" and routes etc on the unit as you would expect- these "locations" also include the appropriate symbol - ie house, bed, ferry etc.
If I then disconnect the Zumo, then reconnect it and look at the stored data map again all "locations" now have only a blue waypoint flag against them?? and if I transfer them to Basecamp they bring the blue waypoint flags with them.
Am I doing something wrong? I've going back through settings on Basecamp and Zumo 350 but not found anything obvious!

any help welcome.....................Grizzly:beerjug:

I'm afraid I cannot be much help Grizzly. I'm no expert, - but I solved most of my problems by not transferring data direct to my Zumo. Once I got everything sorted and transferred into my PC, I used POI loader and it was simplicity itself. If you need a wall to bang your head against, I've got one you can borrow :thumby:
