Anyone have any top tips for editing exisitng routes?

I want to tweak a route I take and have copied it and want to adjust it for a new route. Is there an easy way to delete part of it and insert a new section.

I have tried editing the properties of a route and deleting one of the waypoints but it just joins up the missing bits with its own route. I want to be able to delete a section and insert an alternative section. This seems tricky with the options I am using.

Seems reasonable but then again maybe it isn't. Is it better to just mark all the significant waypoints and use them to make a route?

I know you can edit a track in the way I describe or at least there are graphical tools to edit a track.

Any help appreciated.

I'm using mapsource 6.11.1

That's what I'm doing and the "mess about with it" bit is causing me the grief.

There is an "insert route section" option and a "remove route section" option but it doesn't seem intuitive, to me anyway. So any tips anyone, much appreciated.

Have you tried to drag and drop idea of editing routes? I recall doing this when I wanted to add a via on one of my routes

I would just ad a couple more via points on the route you wish to take

I'm no expert, seeing as I was begging advice for much the same thing just last Friday!

However, what I think you'll find useful is that you should delete any inconvenient waypoints, leaving the start of where you want to detour and the point where you rejoin your original route.

Then use the drag 'n drop tool to outline your new route.

You'll need to save it undera different name, unless you don't need to keep the original route.

I found that spending a couple of hours 'playing' with MapSource was invaluable.

Ok second go at answering the problem.

Open up a beer bottle, do not drink it all immediately.

Open up a completely new "untitled" mapsource.

Copy and paste the two / three routes you want to amalgamate into the "untitled" mapsource.

Open up which ever route you want to end up as the master one, and use the "arrow" route tool to create via points on top of whichever route section you want to copy?

Save the "untitled" into something memorable / useable.

Go and have another beer.

Dragging is easiest, but might not give you what you want.

Otherwise, construct your new route section, go to route edit and 'copy.' Then go to your original route, route edit, highlight the bit you don't like, then 'paste.'

Thanks for the tips guys. I am playing with a simple route to get to grips with all this before I attempt it on my real routes.

Pity work gets in the way really :(

Open 'Routes' in the column that runs down the left-hand side.

Right click on the route you want to edit.

Select 'Route properties'.

Open 'Via points'

Right click on the waypoint/via point you wish to remove.

Delete.

Insert any new waypoints/via points.

Recalculate :thumb
