Hi Folks,
I am currently using Mapsource Ver 6.8.0 and when planning a route, it is not always clear what the name of the road is eg A272, B2110 etc unless the cursor is moved along the road to some point at which it decides to reveal the route name. This seems a very hit-and-miss process for finding what road your desired route is currently up to.

I may have missed something in the menus, but can you force it to display the name of the road your mouse pointer is hovered over ??

It would be a handy feature for use in route planning and deciding upon waypoints.

It is a handy feature, but I'm using Mapsource 6.8 as well and I can't replicate your problem.

I've tried about 20 roads at random, and every one I've tried comes up with either the road name, or road number immediately, just by holding the cursor over the road. The only time I did not manage to get either was when I picked on a tiny cul de sac, and even then it said "Road".

Just your luck

I don't know much about mapsource  - but it would be just your luck to have the duff version!!!!! :dabone

There is a simple (but not obvious) answer for this problem: After you create the route, double click on it - to bring up the 'Route Properties' box - then click on the DIRECTIONS tab within the route properties box.

You will then see each and every leg change (turn) line by line, and the street names will be there on each line.

Thanks Michael, great advice as always. Now I can be absolutely sure the route planned is the one I want. Last weekends GPS route to Brands Hatch took me down a few minor roads on my GS that the sportsbike riders with me weren't ideally suited for. The roads didn't look that bad in Mapsource, until we rode them !!

Another thought - when there's a route along the road you want to identify, the pop up tooltip just displays the name of the route (I think). If you select the route and delete it (press DELETE on keyboard) you can find the name of the road, and then easily undelete the route by pressing CTRL-Z (undo).
