Having recently had to reformat my computer, I reloaded all the programs I needed, but when I tried to reload mapsource, I went through the install wizard, entering numbers when asked. But then on the last page, I got a screen pop up which says 'unable to connect to internet, error 12380' (I think it was) even though internet is connected and working.

?

I've e-mailed Garmin twice, with no response, other than acknowledging receipt of mail. I've tried to ring numerous times, but never got through, although I only stayed on hold for twenty minutes each time.

Have you got some firewall software installed? You may need to add an exception to allow Mapsource to access the Internet.

Firewall not a problem, it's just the 'unable to connect' where the problem is, Zone Alarm is fine, always asking permission, but it doesn't get that far.

Garmin are FANTASTIC er erm...

But only if you ring, they seem to ignore all mail...

My experience of a few weeks ago is, send mail, wait three days, nowt. Ring, immediate solution

Garmin will respond to email but do not hold your breath.
Telephone is much better though some telephone service hands are more familiar with the product/s than others.

I have had loads of email replies with loads of 'help'.

It usually assumes you are quite au fais with all of their software's trickery though. :(

After ten days and three e-mails, today I got a response....'Sorry we've taken so long, we're very busy' :blast ' Have you still got the same problem?' :blast :blast Why not ring our help line on 08....... :blast :blast :blast

OK, I'll admit, I 'phoned today, 25 minutes of listening to music and 'Why not try our website..' messages, I gave up.

Had another response today, same apologies, but suggested 'The message is occuring as you are installing an older version of mapsource on the computer and so it won’t connect to the site properly to perform the unlock, but this can be resolved by updating mapsource once installed' and providing a link.

Oddly, this link is to US Topo maps, which, of course, I don't have, or need.:blast
