MapSource_6153 New Version

I tried the same with a route that I have planned for later this year ending up at the beginning.

As posted on here I too go the error message so I sent the error report to Garmin.
This is the reply I received....

Thank you for contacting Garmin International. The GDB_DATABASE.CPP error
indicates that there is a corrupt waypoint file that is not allowing the
data to be transferred to or from the unit.

Just a few things to check:

1. Update MapSource to the current version, which will also update the
waypoint symbols for some of our newer units:

http://www.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=209

2. Check through the list of waypoints and see if any of the names are
duplicated. A typical waypoint name can be no more than 14 characters.
You can name it as large of a name as you wish in MapSource, but only
the first 14 characters will transfer to the unit. So if any of those
names are duplicated, the extras will have to be renamed.

3. You can also make sure that the position format and the map datum
being used for the waypoints are correct. Check to make sure that the
formats being used are not an invalid selection. Once the correction or
deletion of the bad point has been removed or fixed, try the transfer
again.

Okay I know we could just re name the waypoint which I have done and no problem. One would think you could use the same point with out it getting lost..

I suppose it's a minor issue anyway really.

TJ

I have the same problem in a route that worked a fortnight ago, a loop around the Ypres Salient starting and ending in the Grote Markt.

Garmin reply:

Thank you for contacting Garmin (Europe) Ltd.

In regards to your email, this error usually occurs when you have a
corrupt waypoint file that cannot be transferred.

The solution for this is to look through your list of waypoints and FIND
ONE WITH A DUPLICATE NAME, an invalid position format, or invalid datum.
When this one(s) is removed, it should allow for proper data transfer.

Kind regards,
Luke Razack - Garmin (Europe) Ltd

To get it to work I have made another waypoint right up against the original and it works, but that's not the point, it worked in the previous Mapsource version.

I have Mapsource and the maps on three machines and will test it on one of the others.

Thanks Berin. I had seen that thread, even posted on it. The topic under discussion there was 6.14. I thought I would share my experience regarding 6.15. I installed it to see if it resolved the issue you reported with Wanderlust maps under 6.14

Wanderlust UK v2.00 does not work and generates the errors that I posted above; however, Wanderlust v1.6 ( WanderEast 1.6 and Wanderwest 1.6 ) does seem to work in MapSource 6.15.3.

I have no intention of installing 6.14 to check if they worked for me in that version too. Enough people have posted what a pile of poo it seems to be.

For those of us using old technology City Navigator 2009 ( non-NT) :rob, we can revert to MapSource 6.13 to use the Wanderlust UK v2.00 if we want, and any other features that have issues in MapSource from version 6.14 on. At least, as you did point out in that thread, Bob The Smelly Biker Himself is aware and looking into it :clap

Anyone with a ZUMO and therefore CN NT 2009, they appear to have no choice and will lose out until a fix is found. Maybe the next version of MapSource, maybe a fix from Bob :nenau

Sorry, hadn't twigged you were trying 6.15.1 - thanks for testing it. Now that you've mentioned it, I got an error when trying to install Garmin MapInstaller which seemed to dislike UK v2 but I hadn't made the connection that it was referring to Wanderlust.

But - if wanderlust 1.6 works with 6.15.1 then, apart from the other bugs, it seems that we can install CN NT 2009 and still use the smelly biker maps.

Another reply from Garmin..

This is a known issue with the new version of MapSource. It will be
corrected in the next release. The only solution I have for you at this
time is to back date your MapSource version until the new release is
available. I have provided a link below.

I've been persevering with 6.14.1 which which despite it's own batch of bugs wasn't actually unusably slow on my desktop PC and noted today that there was an update available. So I checked out the views on it here and have finally bit the bullet and re-installed 6.13.7. Frankly, I'd forgotten how much quicker that version was and should have done it weeks ago :blast

Methinks Garmin has wandered off up a blind alley with 6.14 and is devoting it's development effort to patching up something that's not actually going to deliver the goods instead of drawing stumps and starting again

I cant seem to re-intall 6.137. I have uninstalled 6.153 and run the installer for 6.137 but in the info it still shows the version as 6.153.
Any ideas please?
Thanks,
Lloyd

Assuming you installed MapSource to the default location, rename the file MapSource.exe in the folder C:\Garmin to something else (e.g. MapSource.old) and then run the 6.13.7 installer again. Worked for me :thumb2

In order to fix this error you will need to remove the entire program
and clean the registry of our files. Here are the instructions to fix
that issue:

1. Go to the start menu in windows

2. Select the settings and then select the control panel.

3. In the control panel double click on the icon for ADD/REMOVE
PROGRAMS.

4. Select MapSource in the uninstall window. The software will ask to if
you wish to uninstall all the components, answer YES to this option.

5. Next go to my computer and open the "c" drive, there you will see a
Garmin folder delete it.

6. Next go to Start and click on Run, type in %temp% and click ok, this
will bring you to your temp files, go to edit and click on select all,
then go to file and click on delete, once the files start being deleted,
there may be some that will give you an option to select yes or no,
select no you don't want to delete it, some may simply say that the file
can not be deleted that is ok because those are needed files, once you
click on ok in that pop up the process will stop, you can start it again
by clicking on the file second in the list and then by holding down the
shift key and scrolling to the end of the list click on the last file,
this will select all the files accept the first one that stopped the
process. Keep repeating these steps until the temp files have been
cleaned out accept the ones that need to stay.

7. Select the Start key to the run option. In the run window type in <
regedit > and enter. In the registry editor, you need to be very careful
and please follow these steps precisely.

a. Select the (+) next to the folder stating HKEY_CURRENT_USER

b. In this view select the (+) next to SOFTWARE, when you click on this
it will open your registry further.

c. In the SOFTWARE view you will see a series of folders, one will be
GARMIN. Highlight the word GARMIN and press the delete key. It will ask
for confirmation of deletion. Make sure that the word GARMIN is the only
key highlighted. Press on the (-) signs to contract the expansion.

d. Repeat the same process for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE. It may not be in this
registry.

8. Shut down your system as normal and then let the system set for about
30 seconds and then start up your computer.

9. Before re-installing the software please disable or turn off any
security programs; i.e. Norton, McAfee, Spyware, and or Zone Alarm.

10. Reinstall the software. It will ask for the destination folder, if
the setting is the C:\Program Files and so forth, click on the browse
option and type in a different destination folder. C:\Garmin. This
folder will not exist, but the option to create it will follow. Select
OK.

11. Reboot after finishing your installation allowing the software to
rest in the destination folder.

12. After you reinstall, I recommend that you upgrade your operating
software to the latest version of the MapSource operating system, i.e.
update Mapsource or the nroute program to the latest version from our
web site, by going to updates and downloads, then click on mapping
programs, and click on the option needed.

My Garmin TOPO won't work either

So other than doing a system restore can I re-load the older version from a link?

I have a Quest hence reading this V6.13 has all that is required anyway?

PS, my TOPO is Garmin Great Britain V2.0 and gives that same error of please re-load preventing MapSource from opening.

Pile of poo, we shouldn't have to be putting up with this hassle should we?

I was about to go off for a walk using the Quest but now I'll have to go without or mess about on here for ages.

I've just done a restore to sort mine, there is always a risk with that though in case the PC crashes altogether.

Now what is the latest version of 6.13? I am on 6.13.6

8. Shut down your system as normal and then let the system set for about
30 seconds and then start up your computer. :jes
