hello

I’m going to Marrocos next month with some friends. We are planning to off-road as much as possible.

We already have a lot of experience in the Sahara (and in a lot of other places in Africa) but always in a 4x4. this will be the fist time in 2 wheels

We will be driving in autonomy and with very different machines (bmw airhead, Tenere old an new,…)

We will be caring water, fuel, luggage, … all the normal stuff

What spares are a MUST?

I will take TKCs 80 (eventually a Michelin desert at the rear)

your experience please! :beerjug:

I haven't done Marocco but been through several places in South-African and Namibia in similar terrain.

Water - lots of it. Once you de-hydrate it is too late.

Spares you can either carry half a bike with you or the mere essentials, this is normally in my kit.

Set of plugs
500ml Oil
Pieces of wiring + insulation tape + fuses + bulbs (some authorities will fine you for a blown indicator light )
Set of tubes, tyre levers, patches + glue or tubeless repair kit.
Ductape
Cable ties
Small bag of bolts and nuts
Epoxy metal glue
Basic tool set that covers most of the bolts and nuts on your bike.
Recovery Insurance
Phone charger wired into the bike
Head torch - makes it easier to work on something should you not have enough light

My guess is a proper service will be carried out and the bike prepped for the trip.

I basically pack in the event of things rattling loose or coming off. This gets tied or taped on until I am back where I can fix it all again :D

If something big goes wrong how much are you really prepared to fix next to the road in the dust :nenau

I can think of a million other things to pack but sometimes you just have to trust the bike and go with the basics :beerjug:

hello

Your list is very similar to mine! Even in a 4x4 I like to travel light…

My list has 2 additional items: a bypass tube to the oilcooler and some steel wire to replace clutch and throttle cables

How many litres of water do you normally carry? (and how)

Sorry not my journey (someone else) just posted the link.

I'm still in the dreaming phase :mmmm

I'd be inclined to fit new cables alongside your old ones, easy and quick to change then, seal the ends with tape or cling film:)

Brake and clutch lever cable tied to the bike somewhere.
Use a Camelbak or similar it encourages you to drink more regularly, it's likely to be very hot and buy bottled water when you can, strap 2/4 bottles on your bike.

You're unlikely to need spare fuel on most of the pistes if you start them with a full tank.:thumb

Brilliant idea. No need to fish them out of the bottom of the pack.

Man sounds like a dream trip for me.

3 or 4 litres minimum - I kept mine in a Baglux tank bag (1150 GS Adventure). I carried a mixture of bottled water and citrus juice.

I went in September, temp was about 36 deg.

Last year I was in Southern Turkey in August - Temp 45deg. We were drinking 2 litres minimum every 50 miles. The soles came off my boots in the heat (I wasn't alone) and I rode with Gaffer Tape holding them together.

Take a couple of tubes of "Seriously Strong Glue" and some Superglue.

And plenty on Imodium :blast

And be VERY CAREFUL on the roads. The locals just trust in Allah and are completely mad - overtaking anywhere and using both sides of the road on blind bends. Treat the blue & white "Taxi Grande" as suicide jockeys - 'cos they are.

Take currency in small denominations as nobody has any change.

Have a good trip.

Bob.

helllo

thanks to all your replays!

I've been in Marrocos 7 times in 4x4s... also I've been in Algeria (last year) and Libia, Tunisa, Egipt, Mauritania, Mali...

most of the times I went in Summer time (August) and the water consumption is huge!
last year in Algeria(May) , wile crossing the Anhet the guy that when with us has drinking 9 litre/day!

but I’m a rooky in motorbikes… so all your precious comments are welcome!

Spares????

All you need is a 32mm ring spanner (the longer the better).

When your airhead breaks down, crack your buddy with the Tenere over the head (this is why the 32mm spanner is required, anything less won't knock him out if he's got his helmet on!!) then steal his bike.

Saves on weight IMHO :D:thumb2

Enjoy your trip.
