haven't been camping for years!! more of a hotel sort of person:rolleyes:
but going camping soon. what would you recommend to sleep on. that is light enough to carry on the bike ,but also resembles my bed:thumb

A sleeping bag obviously, but what you really need is a thermarest.

Although the wife makes be carry a blow up matress for her which is small enough to pack on the bike.

Years and years ive slept on the ground with a closed cell (foam) mat. It did what i wanted it to do, but two years ago, and not needing it to conform to military specs, i purchased a Thermarest. Wow. what a bit of kit. And, not massive amounts of weight or bulk added.
Worth every penny.:thumb2

I bought an inflatable mattress (not self-inflating) from a camping shop. It is narrow, six separate tubes that each take three or four good puffs, looks too thin when inflated but in fact is thick enough to keep you off the ground when yoru weight is spread across it. It packs up really small - in fact I roll it up with my tent and don't even know it's there.

It isn't luxury, is only good for one person, but has lasted several years and suits me fine.

Can't remember who make sit, or how much it cost, but I'm a tight git so it can't have been much!

EXPED

Bought the Exped Down Air Comfort from The Outdoor Shop

Awesome.....
Now consigned the thermorest to...the back of the toyota:D and won't look back! no comparison.

It packs smaller, comes with its own pump (the bag it's in is the pump-very clever), it's longer, wider and only 200 grams (inc bag) heavier than the thermarest- so, comfort-wise, bril:thumb and packs down smaller too.
Nice piece of kit for us :rob :D

Ive got a top quality berghaus rucksack (which some muppet left behind at a party years ago) and i stuff it full with my tent ,2 sleeping bags, a massive double airbed, pump and loads of other stuff. (theres still room to cram a few bottles in on the way back). It fits nicely on my rack and holds loads more than a top box.Camping is ok but the days of kipping on the floor have gone forever. Theres not much point in worrying about the weight on a boxer.
