M'awa

We interrupt this Micky taking for some important news!

If heading for Cromarty to tick a bucket list trip across the Cromarty firth on one of the oldest continuous ferries in these islands (not the same vessel obvs!) then be aware: they will NOT take bikes if the wind is up and Westerly, IMG_20240807_114258_204.jpgcoming down the firth!

It wasn't so bad for me but two guys doing the end to end were somewhat miffed!

I, on the other hand, consoled myself by spending the afternoon in Cromarty. There's the Hugh Miller house and museum. Miller's one of those Victorian titans who's now almost entirely forgotten but the museum helps to remedy that.

Then there's the Cromarty courthouse next door. Absolutely fascinating glimpses of past times from 18thC grain riots to sailors from the Invergordon RN base on the Ran Dan.

Finally, the East Kirk. It's exactly the kind of church Burns and Scott would have known. In Burns' case, to be admonished by the minister for being a serial shagger, while sat on the cutty stool! Most parish churches have been modernised but not this one. A proper time capsule.

@Posh Pete have you checked your chain tensioner bolts and caps lately. I’d suggest you do, as a handful went bouncing down the road lately.

Ahh yes. Tis was you, then Wapping

A pleasant afternoon in Cromarty was topped off with some fine comestibles from the Cromarty Bakery while enjoying the view of the firth.IMG_20240807_141447_186.jpg

And finally, back to Bunchrew where a Dutch couple and sub 1 year old bairn had taken up residence next to my pitch. They were doing the NC500 in a 1961 DCV! A proper adventure to put put some folk here to shame!

When I arrived, the bloke was jury rigging a fix to a buggered starter solenoid by extending the leads into the cabin so he could, as he said (in the usual perfect English), "StIMG_20240807_200207_411.jpgart it like a criminal!" :DIMG_20240807_205643_452.jpg

The tool kit and tent will weigh the car down!
To fail to prepare ... :D

There's a single axle trailer behind the tent Alistair. Have a squint and you can see it in the pics. He'd fitted the later 37bhp motor instead of the original. Still not quite as powerful as the Himmie though!

As you might expect, they'd been brought up in the faith with the chap's dad also a 2CV fan!

I might pass them tomorrow then on the way to Thurso
