Hi, I have a 4GB CF card a mate is offering to load with freeware maps (since Garmin don't supply map updates for the 2610 anymore :blast), will the 2610 recognise a CF that big? I know there are issues with mSD cards size wise on the Zumos

TIA

CoGS

That figure was bouncing around in my brain box too. If I delete the mapsource maps from my 2GB card and the freeware ones don't take, can I reload Mapsource set back to the card from the PC?

I wouldn't be deleting anything off my 2Gb card at all Cogs. It might well prove to be easier, and cheaper in the long run to buy another 2Gb card to experiment with. They can't be that dear these days.

So long as the mapping on the PC is unlocked to the 2610, yes.

If you're using OpenStreetMap data the density (i.e. the filesize for a given area of mapping) is, ISTR, greater. This means that the geographical area you can fit onto a 2GB card is going to limit the area that you can cover. If on tour you'll need a few cards.

Thanks. having trawled ADVR and HU there is a range of opinion on this.
"Some say..." the 2610 WILL work with a 4GB card but only 'see' 2 GB of it. Others say it'll work with some brands but not others.

The maps are unlocked to the 2610 but I'll hold bak before I risk it.
I'll probably try loading GB onto my old 512MB card first as a trial.

Another, new 2 GB would be best yes, but I jumped the gun and bought a 8GB off 7 Day Shop for £28 for my camera and was going to use the old camera 4GB for the 2610.

& 7DayShop don't do 2GB CF anymore, start at 4GB. Poo. :(

.... In facty 2GB CFs are like rocking horse droppings nowadays and those that are for sale are for silly (expensive ) money compared to 4GB+ :nenau

What about eblag?

I'll have a wee hoke about in boxes over the weekend to see if I have a spare or two knocking about. :thumb2

2 GB compact flash cards from http://www.totalblankmedia.com/fujifilm-compact-flash-card-2gb-40x-p-2348.html Ordered on Friday, arrived on Monday. They work with my Navigator II (in reality a 2610). OSM maps are far bigger then City Navigator 6: 2GB is needed for UK and France with OSM but only 512MB needed for CN v6. Watch our for OSM maps in the UK as they don't seem to support UK postcodes.
