May Be Moving Up North

short term rent mate while you get chance to check all areas out. There are some cracking areas and some dumps. i find a majority of people friendly but thats me. more and more people are moving away from the center as trasport links are getting better. i live 10 miles out and its 20 mins on a train to victoria

On the negative side you'll be quite close to Hairnet 600 which may be something to consider.

The gap of countryside between the M56 and the East Lancs.... (A580)...

Dont go as far north as Leigh, as they eat a lot of pies there...

Not as far south as Lymm, as their pies are tainted with the flavour of footballers wife...

But somewhere in t'middle...
That's where I am, little known place called Culcheth :clap
The stretch between Liverpool and Manchester is linked with 2 motorways (M56 & M62), a major dual carriageway (A580 East Lancs Rd) and 2 intercity railway lines running into Piccadilly and Victoria stations ... commuters paradise! Also easy to get north/south (weekends!!) with the M6 .... we're only an hour from North Wales for early morning blasts with the car/bike ... my route yesterday included the EVO triangle, it would have been rude not to :D

Depending upon the level of housing cost you want to get into there's virtually everything available from Warrington (Appleton, Birchwood etc) over to south Manchester (Altrincham/Bramall/Wilmslow etc.) I guess in general you're looking at newer housing (last 50 years or so) in order to get a garage. It's worth a trip up and take time to have a look around. And this year on average we've had much better weather than the south :thumb

A few places worth investigation ...
Newton-le-Willows (has a station)
Gorse Covert (station at Birchwood)
Appleton
Altrincham (has a station)
Lymm
Culcheth
Leigh/Atherton/Tyldesley (it's the Wigan folk that eat the pies!)

Okay, so depending on how far you fancy travelling you could move more rural towards Nantwich or Chester etc. Depends on if you want a longer commute but trees and quietness at the weekend, or a short commute but the hussle and bussle

I was born and raised in Worsley (Jn 13 M62). Now in Switzerland.

I would have a look at anywhere off the A580 for commuting. Trams run from Eccles.

Have a look at these places:
Monton/Eccles (parts of), Swinton, Worsley, Roe Green, Astley Village (quiet),
Boothstown.

As mentioned - Spend a few days up there, check out the traffic, visit the pubs and places first.

or as I do, rent a place for 6 months or so, then decide where you want to buy!

Still TBC but I am looking over at the Stockport / Disley neck of the woods.
Also might rent for a few months and see what's what.
Got a 'day trip' to Manchester this Thursday with the firm to see the potential new work place - Arndale Centre. Oh joy.

Best of luck, good biking country.......mind you commuting up the A6:blast
