Has anyone any idea as to wether this run to Hastings is taking place this year and is anyone else going to go along? :thumb2

hopefully (if ive fixed the electrical issues).. where is the start point and what time?

The start is normally from Locksbottom but, as I only live along the coast I will go straight to Hastings an try to find somewhere to park :D It would be nice to meet up with a few fellow tossers. :thumb2

Link / more info anyone ? Ta.

People gather at Locksbottom just outside Orpington from about 08:30 onwards and then ride down the A21 to Hastings. Lots make it a few don't. Lots of Old Bill both in the air and on the ground ready to point out where you've gone wrong. Lots of Morris Men and Women banging drums, blowing whistles, dancing about and dabbing green stuff on your nose.

They've been trying to ban it for years so you won't see any official advertising for the event. Do a search for Hastings May Day Run it should come up with something.

I know that the Kent BMF types will be manning the bike park again this year so it must be on!

Thanks Lologeoff I couldn't have put it better! I think there were about 25000 bikes last year so hopefully the weather will be kind to us all. :thumb2

P.S If you want to park somewhere sensible it's best to get down there early as it ends up with bikes parked absolutley everywhere!

Hi all, I'm one of the bike paramedics that normally cover the event (missing this year after recent knee surgery). It's quite a spectacle if you've never been, but to be honest, I'd steer well clear and go for a bloody good ride somewhere else. Every bike cop in Sussex and Kent will be in the area, together with ANPR vans on A21 (no problem with that). Most years we have two or three serious incidents, and a few spills-the worst year a few years back was three fatalities. When there's that many bikes about, it's very easy to get dragged into someone elses mess. Why not come down on the train, and enjoy without having to lug all your bike kit about? If you do ride down, just be careful, and don't forget if you go for a blat that bikes will be everywhere, ignoring solid double whites, taking on reckless overtakes, and generally riding like twats!

How does that work then? Good biking day out that would be.....What would we all look at? Your not related to Inscrutable are you?

which day does this take place gents? may day (for a greek) would be this Friday, which is a work day for the uk. So are we talking about Monday BH?

By my reckoning, May day is actually May 1st. But I believe that the May Day run actually runs on the bank holiday monday, but its not at all clear.

The Ace Cafe post doesnt help, but if you look at the URL the date is there.

But I'd check this if I were you...

Actually, Ace cafe lists this as the "Battle of Hastings Run Ride-Out 8am" and its in the bank holiday.

many thanks... was thinking to avoid the A21 and the carnage, get down to Hastings on my own for midday, have a bit of fun and again return my own way (west sussex for example)...

I guess though there would be quite a few thinking the same, which would probably mean the whole of the South East would be packed with bikes.. 25000 is a lot of metal

It's on back holiday Monday as it has been for over 20yrs. No body wants to say they run it as it would then be banned. If nobody runs it then nobody can be held responsible. Locksbottom to Hastings, kick off at 10am. lots of people go earlier to miss the crowd and rush. Great day out and a fun ride. Don't be put off because so many do it, it wouldn't be the Mayday run if they didn't.

I live on the A21 and all the locals know that from 8.30 on they can't get onto the road to leave. Most of them pull up a chair and watch. None of them moan about it.

Have a great Mayday what ever you do.:aidan

There's a far better road than the A21 to make progress on for heading down to Hastings. Clue: it joins the A21 near Hastings.

many tks biggles - I will do it anyway! Worth doing anything once!

A229 you mean original c? Done it at regular times, its brilliant. Coming down from SW Londo n though on Monday and crossing that city takes too long..

Thinking A24 Dorking, then left on A272 (great road) through Heathfield onto the A21...
