That's a bit like saying the only reliable review or reference of something comes from a biker, preferably one who rides a GS. Nothing else is to be trusted, no sir.
No sir, i disagree, MCN has always been thus. Who chucks the most dosh into their coffers gets the good review of their bikes.Always has and always will be the way. Why do you think that most peeps think its no more than a rag ?That's a bit like saying the only reliable review or reference of something comes from a biker, preferably one who rides a GS. Well, leaving aside that you have no idea of the balance sheet / revenues of MCN, it's not hard to see that that sweeping statement does not entirely stack up. If we take this week's rag with its report on the launch of the 1200 GSA as a sample, there is all but zero advertising for BMW. The largest significant blocks of space are taken up with full page advertisements for:
Triumph
The London Motorcycle Show, headline sponsor MCN, so they are in a very loose sense paying themselves to plug their own product
Arena Cross UK, I have no idea what that is
Next week's addition, same comment as the London show
Several pages of private and trade sales
A couple of pages of insurance brokers, bike breakers, tat sellers and 'stuff'
A Triumph backed competition
On that reckoning, BMW have done exceedingly well.... A half decent review apparently (I haven't read it) for naught.
PS As to your 'rag' observation. As I cannot fathom why most bikers hold the opinions they do on a range of topics, I'll just lump their opinion on MCN (or indeed anything else) into the same bucket. If pushed to guess though, they were told to think it by somebody else, probably their mate's biker mate's mate down the pub or in Tesco's car park. So they do. They are not exactly sure why as, like TV, they never watch it it.

Yeah, but its stealth advertising, wait and see over the next few weeks, id bet that BMW will have a lot more lineage in the rag. The article itself is a sort of advert is it not ?![]()
