Could some kind soul let me know what the distance is between the ground and the lowest point on the handguards/levers - I'm hoping to take delivery of a GS soon and I have a gate that might need to be 'adjusted'

41" clearance to the lowest point of the handguards when I'm sat on the bike. 30" wide at the rocker covers.'09 R12GS.
Any problems,just shut and bolt the gate. Hold on tight. Ride through gate.

That might depend upon how heavy you are and what suspension preload you have
As a rough guide, SAAB-95 car door mirrors are generally set at sufficient height just to get clipped by the lower edge; Merc mirrors are OK, the earlier square ones only just.

If the gate posts are too high and in the way, then just ride it through the hedge

Clearances

My GS will not go through the doorway between my garage and workshop; however if I take off the door (easy enough with the French system which simply involves lifting off the hinges) it will just go through with some wriggling and leaning; When I go away for more than few days I put the bike into the workshop, refit the door, put on the panniers, lock everything, including a U lock, on the bike and feel fairly secure. ( If i had measured it all first I would have said that it could NOT go through that doorway.)
