Megamoto steering

Never really had a problem with weaving on my MM. Then again I am the size of the incredible Hulk, so maybe a bit of weight helps.

Hi Bengaz,

We are 2 having the same problem, even after having search quite a lot of differents settings.
I just got the Scott steering & accessories from Ryan but not yet installed.

I will tell Ryan to have a look on this subject in order to contact you.

Have a look here :

Quality.
Price is crazy tho, like $565 or something plus p+p???
That part is NOT worth that kind of money.
I still might buy one tho:blast. Please give us a review of it when fitted:thumb

I'd still play with the suspension first. The thing is with a damper is it's only masking the symptoms, so why not do your best to eliminate them first rather than have something damp them out and remove some of the feel from the steering.

Plus fiddling with the suspension costs nothing but a couple of hours and a gallon of petrol :)

Plenty of things to say about that...

Why doesn't BMW give us a list of settings matching the pilot weight for example (if the weight is the main parameter) ?

Don't know why we should search for days and days the perfect settings :(

The other guy who will install the kit is a motocross man and he is used to tune the suspensions. He is not a beginner.

If he has chosen to order one, I think that he has some other reasons that just spend his money :rob

I will give you an honest feedback even if I must admit that It was useless to
buy the steering :)

I agree Marc, BMW definitely got the spring rates and settings wrong for the majority of riders. They have denied it, obviously, saying the bike is set up as a sporting, supermoto type bike, but we ride on real roads and not smooth race tracks.

That said, the bike is what it is, and we have to make the best of it. It is just a little frustrating to have to spend time and money, getting it to how it should have been out of the box.

I'd be very interested to hear how you get on with the damper though :thumb2

Settings can be a very personal thing. Setup will also depend on what kind of roads you ride on.

I am very happy with the setup now. I went back to stock setting and worked from there. I am now at stock - 5 at both rebound and compression in the rear, and stock - 5 compression at the front. my weight is 61 kgs + riding gear. At no time have I experienced any instability in the front end.

I will not say 'instability' but wobbles.

It seems that this behaviour is well known whaterver settings you can put
on it.

Honestly, I cannot compete with a GS when we reach a speed above 160 Kmh until let's say 220 kmh on straight roads.

Even if these speeds are very rare, what a disappointment to be 'obliged' to
slow down if you are not a 'pro' rider...

But OK, I've promised you a 'compte rendu' when installed.

By carefully setting the suspension I have eliminated over 95% of my weaving. Before I was convinced I was going to need a damper it seemed that bad, now I don't think about it.

There is a guy in the US, can't remember his name that does the best damper kits for the HP2. Fixinbones has one on his bike, if you do a search for HP2 steering dampers on Adv Rider you'll find him, not cheap, but quality work, about £400 plus shipping if I remember correctly.

Joe,
I see you have your forks dropped as low as possible.
Did you also match the rear shock on its lowest setting tooor did you want the increased weight on the front end?

Front and rear are both set to the lowest settings so I can get my feet firmly on the floor, no other reason :)

Dropped the front and rear to the min height.
Lowered compression on rear and added rebound.
Lowered compression on front to min (still too stiff) and got the rebound just right.
The back end is great and the front is better but it is still too stiff for our roads.
Weaving is a lot less and non existing if you lean over the front.
This bike needs your weight over the front and and it transforms it.
What a bike:beerjug:

How much do you weight?

14 1/2 stone (203lbs) and 6ft 2" lower height feels better still tho.

Im suprised you still feel its too stiff. I felt the same way but Im about 20lbs lighter. I had the dealer install lighter fork oil which helped a bit. Now im running the front comp. damping all the way out, and the rebound 3 clicks from all the way out. It also seems to be a bit better as the shocks wear in. Overall, I agree that BMW got the setup of this bike all wrong. My 950SMR could be adjusted from track ready stiffness to chopped up road readiness at the twist of a screw driver.

I hope you like it. Ive ordered one yesterday.
Did you order the standard non return one or the road version that returns to centre?

Its ages since I took French :(

Hi Bengaz,

I took the Road one, with both actions.

Just tell Ryan you want the road model, the MM isn't for dirt :)

Have you got the ABS on your MM ?

"One other decision you should make is which damper model you would prefer.
They make the standard offroad version that does not have any resistance back to center
and they make a road version that has resistance back to center."

"

the blue comment is Ryan's question in fact.

For ABS model, the brake circuit is a little bit different and the support fixed
on the frame must be changed a very little.

But you will not be concerned.

Enjoy !! :)

shit, ive misinterpreted it.
I need the road one :(

You have saved me a load of grief thank you.

Hope I can stop him posting it.
