Searched the forum for experiences of folks using Almeria to Nador/Melilla crossing, both conflicting. Anyone else used the crossing and want to comment on the smoothness of entry (no laughing at the back there)..

The crossing to Nador is probably easier as you would be landing directly in Morocco, and passport control would hopefully be done on board.

I did the Almeria to Melilla crossing in September, arrived late at night so needed to find accommodation in the Spanish enclave before tackling the border. Much of the town appears to be one large red light district and noisy.

The border at Beni Enzar was a seething mass of humanity, much more dramatic than Fnediq (next to Ceuta), however the entry procedures were much the same. Can't remember whether there were 'helpers' but wouldn't have used them anyway.

Any particular reason for this crossing? Used Tarifa to Tangiers in October - 35 mins. Service (FRS Ferries, I think) was great, looked after the bikes well and got out of Tangiers within an hour.

Cheers

Err.. Tanger is nowhere near Melilla.

Good point. I blame a combination of drink and prescription drugs required to nurse a fractured rib (fell of my bike on black ice - bike ok) for the error!
