I was thinking of buying an additional memory card for my Navigator (Street Pilot III).

Can anyone advise the biggest size available(present one is 128mb), how much and where is the best place to buy.

Cheers:beerjug:

The largest size available in the Garmin format data cards is 256 MB

Thanks Guys,

I'll try e-bay. A 256mb card should hold most of Europe....am I right??

Sorry but you won’t get anywhere near the whole of Europe on 256mb card, currently, on City Select, France is 332mb

Elvin. A 256 Mb card will hold Belgium and approx 40% of Germany. I will need a 256 MB card myself soon - by using the "Select Maps Around Route" option (and adding on a few "borderline" maps just to be safe) you can just about squeeze this amount onto a 256 Mb card.

A 256MB one went the other day for £98

At that price, I'd put the money towards a 2610. That comes with a 256Mb card and v7 mapping for £499!

Thanks for all that guys, I take the point of putting the additional cost of a 256mb card towards a new 2610, but I like my SP III.

Is e-bay the best value or is there anywhere else??

Genuine Garmin ones now seem to be selling for around £110 (they were around £100 a few weeks ago), but the last 2 Garmin "clones" sold on e-bay for £64 & £73, and people seem happy with the 256 Mb cards mentioned in this thread

It's your money - it's your choice, but if you decide to buy a genuine Garmin card, try Aspids.

I picked up a 256 MB pirate card for my SP III here.

I've loaded some maps, and the device was able to load them. I don't foresee any problems with it "on the road". Price was € 119, a bit steep, but cheaper than Garmin...

I looked into making one, but it seemed very fiddly.

And guess who just paid €34 to equip his Garmin with another 512MB? :dabone
Honk-Kong Rulez!
