Amazon are doing a 16Gb Sandisc class 4 mini card for £7.34 Would that be a decent choice? I did read that 16Gb cards didn't work before but I understand that they do now. Do I need 16Gb? Don'y know yet but hardly a prce premium over 8Gb do if it works, it would seem a decent choice

Hi

I have a Zumo 660 with a Sandisk 16GB Micro Card and that works fine. Not sure what class it is, but Class 4 should be fast enough for the Zumo. I would go faster if possible for things like cameras where you want to shoot video or rapid exposure bursts, etc.

That looks a good price for a 16GB card.

I have both a Sandisk and Samsung 16gb cards for my one month old 660. I'm having problems with both being recognised when using them for MP3's. I have not yet tried using them for anything else. Sometimes it works fine othertimes it can't find any MP3's and I have to switch off and on again. I do not know if this is a problem with my unit, the disk itself, software version or anything else.

Would like to know if anyone else here has the same issue and has found a solution. The problem is showing up with other users on the Zumoforums but its not clear where the problem lies. I have tried all the usual steps with folder names, sub folders etc etc. Now thinking of buying a 4Gb card just to find out if the disk size is an issue or not.

8 gb cards work fine. I believe you may need the last software update to use a 16.

8 is plenty, by the way. Plenty of room for maps, tunes etc.

You're probably right but 16 is only marginally more and maybe better if I want to play lots of mp3s later

That was exactly my thought but I'm getting irritated by the recognition problem. Trouble is I don't know if that's being caused by the disk itself. I tried a second 16gb card and its the same with that - works well for a while and then for no reason I can see stops being recognised half the time. I'm running the latest software already.

Would be interested to hear if using an 8GB card resolved the issue. Have had one in my Nuvi 765T for about a year and no issues. On that basis and the fact that it provides ample room for my needs I got an 8GB microSD card for the Zumo.

There are people successfully using 16Gb cards on Zumo 550s on the Zumo Forums so I would have thought there'd be no issues using one with a 660. :nenau

I use an 8Gb card on my 550 without problems.

If you check the 660 section on Zumoforums you will find the issues. I had no issues with SD cards on my 550 either.

Mine does this sometimes, have read on here somewhere to put mp3 tunes into a file marked as such. Also 100 max to folders in the main file. Or did i dream that. I am sure a more knowledgeable person will be along shortly.

I have that problem, only using a 4GB card, it was worse with an 8GB, GPS is up todate with all software etc as to a fix ???? .......:D

Never had any of the reported problems with the 16GB Sandisk Card and Zumo 660 MP3s , etc. I am using latest firmware/software, latest maps, etc.

I probably have about 8GB of MP3 files so that would leave 8GB for future maps if required.

Having spoken to Garmin Tech, it seems that the map updates will get bigger and bigger and already I had to delete most of the voice files in order to accommodate all the maps in the Internal Memory.

I think Garmin will bring out a software upgrade to allow maps to be easily stored on an SD Card, so the spare 8GB would be useful.

Although more expensive, I usually try for larger SD Cards as they are more future proof. Not much call for a load of old 2GB Cards these days and memory cards storage capacities are getting bigger all the time.

I would have thought that difficulties with SD Cards may be caused by the card's read and write speeds, though Class 4 should be OK and SanDisk is a reputable make. I think there are some discrepancies between actual read/write speeds and claimed class speeds. I tested some for a camera and the read/write speeds were significantly higher for 20MB RAW files than for 4MB JPEG files. MP3 files will be around 8-10MB depending on the compression used. If you could borrow a higher speed (Class 10) card to try than may be useful.

Thank you for this!

I've completely given up with using my 660 for music. I found the sound quality to be really poor and the processor unable to cope with multi tasking.

Garmin Support's response to my MP3 issue is simple - send the unit back and they will replace. "No Sir, never heard of this problem before..." Whats bugging me is I only bought the 660 6 weeks ago. I could have saved £100 by buying a Newly Overhauled Unit in the first place but no, I plan to keep the unit a good long while so I bought new. So now, 6 weeks later, I'm going to get back from Garmin a Newly Overhauled Unit :blast

you could go back to the supplier and ask for a refund.
