Metzeler ORIGINAL Tourance now available for GS/A LC

They were my preference, got good miles and grip,
The exp and next never quite matched the miles and grip for me,
Lc sizes available after just buying trailriders, might be next year for a set
Roamer,

My tyre man tells me that the old style Tourance are now made in China which would worry me.

The old Tourance didn't last long if you liked to make progress. The rear only lasted around 3500 miles on my Aprilia Craponord. I'm quite happy with the Tourance Next on my GS LC as they gripped superbly in the Lakes and Dales on Saturday, despite damp roads and single digit temperatures :thumby:

Until my last tyre change on my 1200 Adv - I stuck with original-pattern Tourances since 2006, and gave each set a decent workout. Reckoned on 6,000 m out of a rear as the absolute maximum. The last pair were Chinese-made, and I could find no discernible difference on grip or road-noise.......... just a slightly greater wear rate.

Great tyres still :rob

Chinese Tourance

I have personally tested a set of these on my previous Twincam GSA under arduous conditions during a trans-continental trip and I can say with confidence that quality and performance are excellent and have not been compromised.

Which is more than can be said for other products from China.

Annoyingly, I have missed the bus having only just fitted a set of Tourance Next to my GSA LC to replace the Annakee 3s. These I found disappointing in just about every department in comparison to a well tried and trusted original Tourance. That said, the Annakee 3 is not a bad tyre - it's just not a GREAT tyre.

Early impressions of the Tourance Next are good.

I to was concerned with the switching of Tyre production to china and I thought that I would contact Metzler with regard to Quality and Quality Control.

I received an E Mail from them (a year or so ago) which I attach for you information. Now I know that many fellow Tossers on here will say "well yes, they would say that wouldn't they". So for what it's worth here it is :-

Dear John,
Thank you for your email,
We have a Factory in China since last couple of years now that start to produce*Pirelli/Metzeler*tyres, and we can assure you that they are the same quality that are made in Germany as the same high quality and technology equipment installed, I hope this has helped.

Good stuff thank you chaps for allaying my concerns. It's good to get information and feedback from the horses mouth as it were. :thumb2
