Metzeler Roadtec 01 SE

Just put M9’s on my 1250. They are brilliant and the road tests say wet weather grip is vastly improved over the M7’s.

Yes it was the tests that almost persuaded me but I know the rT 01 are brilliant in the wet and more than good enough for mere mortals in the dry.

The biggest influence in honesty is that the known reliability of the RTs whilst awl on a trip ( when it always rains) I won't get slowed down too much

Maybe next year when Covid has fucked off and I can have a 6 months between trips I will have a play with some

And you were considering Scorpion Trails ?

Seriously if you can over heat a Roadtec then your fucked with Scorpion trails

I nearly went for M9R but bottled it cos its bound to piss it down when im 800 miles from home

I run Cta3 and they are way better than the road tech, it’s an opinion , the road tech does not like to be pushed , look at the tread pattern compared to the Ta3 and the pst2 they have loads more rubber and less sipes , the road tech is not a good fast road tyre as it can’t cope . The ta 3 can .
Like I said I tried 2 sets , like them at first but when really riding hard they just did not perform. They ruined a euro trip two up as they were shocking .
If I could have changed them mid ride I would have done . I run two sets wheels , the second set were sold on after 500 miles after i got home as I tried to give the second set a second chance , they failed as they for me are flawed by the front tyre

Must be your style then as I have used them on S100XR at the same time as my mate on a KTM SDR and 2 weeks in the Picos with nothing and I mean nothing faster than us and they were fine

Same last year on KTMSDgt and HIs SDR

I have already found the limits to the ST2 and it is no where near the same limit as the RT

Tyres are very personal thing of course but when I see what Nieves can do on a track on RT in the wet and the dry......

Well I wasn’t there so ...but to add the Gs is a heavy bike and the nature of how it brakes into corners is not similar to your mentioned bikes .

Roadtec 01's for me too. Good all round tyre in all conditions, with none of the issues mentioned in earlier posts. I'm no riding God but I like to get a wiggle on and don't get passed too often; it's usually in a 30 or 40 limit or double white lines by some riding god

Interesting comments here,

I'm looking for some new hoops for the LC,

I know the TMF gave them a glowing review, and TBH they are what Metzelers are -

bloody hard wearing tyres, always have been, but they take sodding ages to scrub in & warm up.

Iv'e had Karro's on the hexhead, which were binned for trailriders, which i have to say were brilliant, stupendous grip in the dry, and wet grip was

second to none. They proved there worth in Scotland during some torrential downpours. Longevity wasnt too bad 6-7k rears and the fronts were starting

to go off at 7k. Couldnt get replacements, so went with Tourances & all the Metzeler traits,:blast, feckin ages to scrub in,(read confidence sapping) &

very skittish . Once scrubbed in good levels of dry & wet grip, almost on a par with the trailriders

The scorpions look interesting, but do you have to stick with what BMW reccomends, or can you stick anything (within reason on)

I havent heard of anyone running Trailriders on the LC, or are 90/10's not popular any more

You can fit what tyres you like, fit the PST2s they are a good tyre.

PST2? what are they ?

Pirelli Scorpion Trail 2.

High confidence hoops for sporty/light feel riding.

Standard fitment on the KTM1290 Super Adventure S & maybe the Mutley at some point too.

Do a search on them. Plenty of positive comments from those that have tried them.

Yep OE fit on the Multi

They are brilliant tyres but there isnt enough tyre for a multi
I am only 1500 miles in to multi ownership and the ST2s are at the limit of the edges and i have come no where near the limit of either the bike or my bravery hence swapping the tyres to RT 01 SE tomorrow

I reckon that the ST2 would be a brilliant tyre on a GS

I'm interested to hear how you see them comparing.

I had the original RT01's on my 2017 SDR and felt they were OK, but had more fun with the PST2's on the 1290 KTM.

At the moment I'm running CTA3's on the 1250 and they are real nice.

Horses for courses :beerjug:

Done 5500kms on PST2 and had 3 scary moments, 2 of them with the back tyre, on almost full lean and lost grip, was saved by traction control, both times i almost went to the floor :-(
Last week was the front tyre, and it was a miracle that it regained grip :-) but they have 5500kms and it was a very hot day.
Very good tyre but it can surprise traction control ;-)

Think that Michelin road 5 trail, are a little better, but they do less kms.

That would be my asessment of the PST2, in hot conditions you can just about match the PR5 on corner speed but not drive out of the corners. In the UK we don't get that same hot weather so it's not an issue.

Yep , in Spain they (PR 5) are chocolate tyres , mega grip but and a big , big but , sub 1500 miles if your lucky on a new set , off the lorry , straight onto the mountains , 5 days back on the lorry...… great set of boots tho .
Conti TA3 , perfect , same run , 1800 miles and still enough to get home from Manchester and have a final couple of rides out . Better set ..I would not use the RT01 again as they are flawed for me , maybe not others , but the front tyre is awful , it just squirms around like its got a puncture ...

If you get that on the road, then no matter the tyre....... you're heading for a crash.

Don't see your answer , sport rubber , you would be scrapping everything and not slipping , so the "no matter what tyre" is a bit vague ….
Step out tyres : Annke , RT01 , Tourance Next .
Non step out: CTA3 , PR5 , CTA2 .
R1 Happy has the next gen with the M9RR , perfect grip in the right conditions , looking forward to his reviews as they are bringing out a Trail version for those who have not done the 17 conversion.

Step out - but that is you torturing the poor feckers :)

I like the idea of the slightly more wet focused front on RT01 as (present glorious weather excluded) I need a tyre that performs when it’s cold and damp.

.....I just can’t seem to wear my current A3s down enough to justify the change to myself - yet.
