Having now completed 3800 miles on the Metzelers and having replaced them around 70% worn for a set of Anakee 3's, following my 70mph double blowout, which have now done over 500 miles, I can say I do notice a difference. I liked the Metzelers, their grip was faultless and they always felt stable.

The Anakee's grip seems no less impressive. But they feel quicker to turn and require less effort. Perhaps the bike has a slightly greater tendency to fall into a turn requiring correction or more throttle. But at no point do they feel unstable so its more a feel of agility.

The Anakee tread pattern looks more aggressive and I had no sense of loss of grip on some mud covered country roads. But they still look more road biased than off-road.

My only disappointment with the Metzelers was how quickly they appeared to square off, particularly the rear tyre. The Michelin compound seems harder, even the little moulding tags closest to the centre of the tyre seemed to survive for longer on the Michelins. After 500 miles there is no significant sign of wear on the rear and though they were a little more expensive this slower wear justifies the Anakee's.

New tyres always feel more inclined to turn-in than the old rubber you just took off. It can be dificult to remember what the Metzelers felt like that far back?

I had the same issues with my NEXT rear, as it also squared off very quickly. Changed to A3's at around 5500 miles. I hope my new bike comes with Anakees.

I believe all new GS-LC now are supplied with Anakees 3,for some unknown reason BMW doesn't seem to use M.Next at the moment. My new 2014 was,and no probs so far:):)...

Yes, that's a fair point, and one I thought carefully about, as some subjectivity is bound to slip in unless you can try both tyres side by side.

Yes, kerb at speed while cranked over. Reckon I would have lost it on a sports bike. But the GS dealt with it.

The Anakee 3's are really good. Spend a food 2300 mls on them in France, good grip and no issues with the bike fully loaded. Just had to adjust the tyre pressures accordingly. Very good water dispersing as I noticed coming back on the motorway chucking it down. At no point did it feel unstable.

I have just put a Roadsmart2 on the rear to replace the Metzeler. That lasted 5000 but was squared off before 4000. Didn't fancy either the Annakee or the Conti's. The Roadsmart2 for the front is due out very soon.

brill but wear quick

Just for my tuppenth the Metz do seem good but I also have found that they square off quick and wear out even quicker - on a recent trip to the nurburgring (you`ve all gotta go and take ya bike round the track, fear is brown and sticky) by the time I got back they had just about had it - 3,500 miles.

Gonna try the anakees next
