Metzler Roadtec 01 (advice)

My favourites tyre from my GS riding dAys were definitely the Conti TA2 s , loved the way they felt and gripped (wet and dry ) and that never seemed to change even when the tyre was well worn , good longevity too .

My favourite tyre so far on my CTourer has been two sets of T30 Evo sports touring tyres. Loved them , very sporty , pretty good wear and very confidence inspiring. Previous tyres were PR4s and no, I never had a puncture.

I’ve Just put on a set of PR5 to give them a try , seem ok so far but only two day trips out on them .

Caveat - I do not ride like a cock as Mr Sticks “friends” state :D

PS It’s been a long 12 years since I rode the Stelvio, and we came from the Umbrail Pass side but I wouldn’t have thought it would be that easy to push a tyre hard on it as speeds are so low. It certainly wouldn’t be a deciding factor for me when choosing a tyre :nenau Have a great trip, would love to go to that area again :thumb2

If you ride a GS/A like me, never off road, good mix of roads, often two up, the Roadtec 01s are likely to suit. I got over 11,000 miles in 13 months which included a week in the Picos, a week in Wales, 1550 miles riding to Munich and back, riding all year round.

I will be looking at doing the stelvio pass and think I would prefer to have road going tyres on instead of the Anakee 3s which I’ve presently got on.

I had the A 3's on mine when I did the furka, susten, grimsell, fully loaded two-up with no problems... felt assured and safe. Unloaded two-up upand over the Stelvio and back again.... no probs... just my twopenneth worth. Have a great trip :D

Same here done 11 bloody passes in 2 days with the mates 2 up totally fully loaded, "half the tool-shed and locks and chain never again" Roadlok and alarm disc-lock is plenty and it has already been said, given the speed on the passes, buses, cars bikes, and then radars here and there, no Formula 1 slick tyres needed A3,s where fine, and felt good.

I’ve started to take more of an interest in this thread. I’ve just laid out a deposit on a GSA. I had Anakee 3s on my GS when I bought it 3 years ago, in the days when I shit myself if I leant over more than 2°
Now I’m used to PR4s & more recently Roadtec 01s I’m a bit wary of how the A3 will feel

Your GSA will more than likely if new come with the New Anakee Adventure, totally different from the A3

My 1250 GS came with the new Anakee Adventures, and I couldn't wait to replace them with Roadtec 01s, having used these on my 1200.

The Adventures were noisy, just like the Anakee 3s, and also felt quite harsh. However, the worst thing is the tyre profile - it is an odd shape, lightly curved on the middle section, but a much steeper curve towards the edges, which gives an odd feeling of falling into corners.

In contrast the Roadtecs have a constant curvature across the whole surface giving a more predictable feel.

It’s a 6 month Old R1200GSA not a 1250 so has the familiar Anakee3s

Nothing wrong with A3,s tyres are tyres, and when in good condition they are fine, and when squared off and run down obviously they are not the best, looking at the miles some pile on the tyres, its no wonder they find them weird at times, for me if I get 8000 kms out of a rear, good looking or not, off they go to the bin.
