Had the 01 so decided to go for the 02. Only had it for around 35miles, next week will be going on a 2000 miles trip. Will have some idea how good they are and will do a report.

Completely different thread pattern to the 01

Interested to hear your thoughts.

900 miles done. 400 in the most miserable weather ever. Rained all the way from Calais to Strasbourg at one point it was like a monsoon. The 02 performed extremely well. Didn’t realise at the time but there is a lot of over banding on the new parts of German motorway. I was told that they actually built a lane and a half so you have over banding right in the middle of lane 2. It was never a problem.
One thing that worried me was the pattern running in the middle of the rubber. In Garmisch at the BMW Event had a chat with the product manager at Metzeler and showed him the pictures. He said that this is normal on the 02, it is actually the contact patch which is the harder compound. 🤔
At speed up 210km (in Ger.) the bike was stable. The profile still looks good. The PM told me that the actual depth of the thread in the middle is 10mm. I shall measure it when I return home.

How do they compare, handling-wise and in the wet, to the 01's? Never had a moment in the wet with the rear 01, but lost some confidence n the front when half worn in the wet. It's let go a good few times with no warning, but in fairness, one of those times I suspect diesel on the road was to blame. Two other occasions, it's slipped at slow speed but caught it in time. Part of it may be the uneven wear pattern showing on the tread where the compound changes. It seems to develop ridges due to braking forces

Here is a second opinion

Measured the depth of the tire when got home. Down to 6mm. Now my tyre fitter told me after he measured a new one that the depth is 7mm from new. So 1 mm over 2000 miles is not bad.
Pictures after the trip
