Hi guys,

Sorry if this threads been done before but i failed trying to find any thing with the search function.

Any way im off to germany in two weeks down to the black forest for a week of fun. Now the metzler tourance's where on the bike when i bought it with 21k on the clocks, ive done 5k on them but with my up coming trip how long will the remaining 3mm tread on the front and 2mm tread on the rear last?

does any body know off hand how much meat is on them as standard?

thanks in advance guys. :thumb2

If you don't want to fanny about replacing them abroad, I'd go for a new rear at least.

:beerjug:

EDIT: Unless you're doing less than a thousand miles.

EDIT 2: Just replace them. It'll save worrying about punctures and water dispersal when it's pissing down on the autobahn/Nurburgring.

If you want some fun and a trouble free trip, change them both, it's worth the money. I always insist that riders on my trips start with new rubber as having worn out tyres on lovely twisty roads can really piss you off:augie

Thanks guys :thumb, think ill go ahead and change both.

ill go trash these ones on saturday on some of my fave fast roads, and get some new ones fitted next week.

As I once found out - the last couple of mm of tread on the rear Tourance disappears rather quickly (especially on the sides from fast twisties).

Mine went from "I think that should get me home okay" - to "Jesus! That tyre is shagged!" in the space of 50 miles on the Route Napolean on a GSA with all the luggage.......... :blast

Meant a detour into Grenoble on a Saturday morning - for a replacement.

Franch and German shops don't seem to carry the stock that UK ones do.

i have always ran the Tourance,s and i reckon about 4000 miles to a rear ,the front will do double that,so in my case i only change the front every other time.

As a contrast ...

... I've had 12,000m out of a rear Tourance :thumb

Is that 12,000 metres:augie

Tourance's, Battlewings, Trailwings, BT021's etc......no more than 5,500 miles from a rear. and about 1000 miles more from the fronts.

so why is such a ":augie" thing to get more than double what you get out of a rear tyre :nenau

are you saying Oblertone rides his bike in the wrong manner or you do :green gri

You've just answered your own question. If you can trash them on a Saturday what chance have you got with them lasting on the long haul?

Those of us that are getting 5k per tyre, must be riding a wee bit more aggressively then. I've never got 10k + miles out of any of my tyres on any of my bikes. So I must be doing something wrong.:blast

tourances

just changed my front 6500 / 5000 for the rear i think im going to try conti road att 2 next time

10k from a rear OMG that must be quite saintly riding ;)

I've never had 4k from a rear in my life - fingers crossed some longer trips can get that figure to the 5.5k mark :)

of course the other theory is 3333 miles on right hand bends, 3333 on left hand bends and 3333 miles on the straight. 1 mile contigency. :rob
