The same problem has happened again to me. Using the Tourance tyres on my 1150GSA and the new rear is showing cracks on the sidewall and between the tread pattern. Some cracks on the sidewall under load can pinch a coin.

Ok so Saudi Arabia is bloody hot, the bike is parked outside under a canvas cover but, as this has occurred before with these Metzlers, i'm wondering if this is a common fault (it is V rated).

After a 250kms ride, I noticed the rear was squirming and first put it down to low pressure (28psi cold'ish). But, they certainly warm up here fast. I had to change the front half way through it's life due to the same problem and again the rear before this one. I normally buy in the UK and bring them out with me as they are expensive here and can take a month to arrive. Only one dealership per country here in the ME.

Can anyone else riding in hot climates recommend an alternative manufacturer?

It has ruined my long weekend trip to Kuwait and left me perplexed and pissed off.

As these are tubless, I do not want to risk riding now it is on my mind. Looks like I will be off the road for a while besides, it is too bloody hot anyway.

Its probably the UV light over there, it buggers lots of stuff up. you need whitewall tyres :augie

I had cracks around the tread bits on a couple of pairs of tourances - 20000 miles and no problems - they wore themselves out 'naturally'.

I'd perhaps be a bit more worried about the sidewalls though.

What do Metzler say?

Tyre cracks

I will be emailing them and try and submit some photos. Probably through both the UK and German sites.

So, is that right; white walling the tyres gives them some protection?

Would look a bit naff on a GS but, if it saves me the hassle and lost riding time, i'll give it a go with some emulsion.

I would love to see a pic of a GS on whitewall tyres :D

I wouldn't be running a GSA rear tyre at 28 psi - won't do it any good.

Did the cracks appear after that ride ?

Hi,
Getting on well with Tourance here in Riyadh. but keep the pressures a lot higher. At least 32psi in front and 38psi in the back, more like 42psi if loaded. Set cold, before riding.
On third set now, after using Trailwings for first set. Been to Oman etc, stinking hot. 350kms out today, excellent!
I'd say yer pressures is low.
Feck all GS tyres here in Riyadh or Dubai, any in Kuwait?
