Michelin Anakee or Metzeler Tourance

Wully, we spoke about this last weekend. Coming back down through Skye, I had the back step out 2 or 3 times and I was taking it pretty easy.

I always take it easy on the 'Panikees' after my last slide- they still feel like shit though , especially if the road surface promotes 'tram- lining'- they really can't handle that at all.
The only riding I'll be doing on them is to the shop to get them changed.

The Anakees are fine if you do a bit of mixed riding, but dont expect too much out of them if you push them hard through corners - they are a wee bit soft in the side walls. I find them a bit noisey too and can feel the knobbles on a smooth road. Horses for courses - they are fine for my style: I dont really like going mentally fast, like their longevity and toughness and great fro B road an unclassifeid road riding.

Will probably change to another brand just for the hell of it next time round.

I changed from anakees to touance about 4 months ago. anakee's did 6k on rear and 12k on front (lots of 2 up riding). I've found the tourance seems to have a stiffer side wall which may be better for stability at high speed (3 figures up) but in bends it skips across the road if the surface is bumpy. Not a real problem but I felt the more flexible anakee was better suited to uneven high speed stuff as it seemed to flex and grip the road better. The bike did move about a bit but still felt more sure footed than with the tourances. I'll be going back to anakees when the time comes!

I've also had more slides in the wet with the tourances if you're pushing on a bit!

Maybe adjust the shock a bit

I came back to bikes after a 20 year break and moved from a daily hack 350 single BSA B40 to a 1150GS. It happened to have Tourance on from new.

I've done a bit of gentle off road, a track day school and every kind of road rising from city to motorway through country roads.

Yes the Tourance can jump about a bit but in 35,000+ miles the've never let go, I don't have chicken strips and I do have chamfered boots. I ride all year, the only one to go to the IAM Scotland bike forum winter meet on two wheels which included rain, snow and torential rain. I also get 12,000 miles from a set. I try to do as much of my acceleration as possible when cranked hard over, it helps maintain the profile

At the end of the day it's down to what you like.........................

Got them off the bike today

Got Battle Wings on now and they are just fantastic.

The ride home was great although a bit wet in the beginning but once the roads dried out I really felt the difference.

A set of nearly new Anakees will be on the 'For Sale' section soon....

Ride magazine review

Hi guys,

I've seen it on here before but has anyone got a link to the May/June Ride magazine tyre test for the GS12? Need to replace my anakees and I'm going round in circles....Tourance?

I have no idea how you guys get so many miles out of your tyres. This was after 6,500 - I usually get around 6,000 from a rear Tourance.

Tourance gets my vote.

so far BUT I have a set of Avon's Dist's in the garage waiting to go on.
If up to Avons usual standard there should be better mileage awaiting.

I must admit that......

my Tourances went from 10 grand plus when I first got the bike to around 7 -8 now.

always do run my car and bike tyres in for the first 100 miles at a max of 50 with easy throttle and braking.

Here in Floriduh you'd be had pressed to ever wear out the side of your tire...to bad for me
I should send you my take offs, so you can use the rest of the tire.

Anakee without a doubt . just had my second set fit last week after 11,000 miles . No handling problems wet or dry , puts my dunlops to shame on R1 , 1,500 miles as bald as my head .
