There has been a thread running on the Southwest regional section about a couple of bikes with a "howl" from the rear of the bike (1150GS and 1200GS) which some of us were putting down to driveshaft/gearbox/final drive bearings.
I spoke to one of the members and it came up in conversation that we were both running Michelin Pilot Road tyres, albeit mine on an 1150 and his on a 1200, I have just returned from a quick run having swapped my rear wheel with my sons 1150R shod with new Dunlop Roadsmarts and the difference was like day and night in its silence!
I could once again hear every tractor-like noise from the bike and obviously felt better that it was not a bearing about to give up!
I am certain that the noise was not there from first fitting and must have gained in volume from about 500 miles (ish). Has anybody else had a similar occurence, or has this put anybody elses' mind at ease?

Worn Tourances can make a racket and cause vibration too, at one point riding through the highlands the vibes were making one of the panniers into a soundbox, I actually thought something was letting go back there :D

My half worn rear Tourance has started to howl at certain road speeds.

Hi, Gomez has these tyres on his XJR the noise they make really drones on...(and its not me on the back either)...So muich so, he is having the tyres taken off tomorrow and the Michelins are being sent back to the manufacturer. His bike has been road tested by the local Yamaha dealer and they agree the noise is unbearable.

I've been running my 1150 GS on Michelin Pilot Roads for the past 4 or 5 years with no problems, however , the latest rear tyre is a Pilot Road 2 and it is definitely a noisier tyre

I noce got off to check the front end due to the noise only to find it was the Tourance's. Now I put most of it down to the tryes unless I get really worried.

Most of the Radial GS tyres mare noise but the pure road tyres might be different.

Changed to a Dunlop Roadsmart on the back yesterday. No tyre noise whatsoever, just the sound of a tractor enjoying itself!
Anybody want to buy a hardly used (less than 1000 miles) 150/70 x 17 Michelin Sport Road tyre?

Gomez has had his tyres changed today.....:)now a happy bunny, with just burble of the engine and no tyre noise. I will update the thread when we get a reply from Michelin :beerjug:
