Has anyone experience of these on the GS12? Not sure how long they have been available but Motorad mag rates them higher than the 020 for road use. Actually they also rate the D607 better than the 020.
I've only used the D607, get about 5000 miles on a rear and 9000miles from the front. I want grip more than mileage but wouldn't want to get less than 4000miles out of a tyre.

I'd love to try them, I've been using BT020s for about 13,000 miles. But I checked the Michelin-USA Website a week ago and they don't list a 19" front tire there. Hopefully they will, as I'll need new tires about September and I loved the Pilot Roads on my FJR1300...

I have used the roads on my 03 rs. They are a really good balance between performance and wear. I was really impressed by the way they handled rain. I would highly recommend them.

I'm interested in trying them too... although like HMarc I haven't seen 19" fronts listed anywhere... BUT, road conditions here are more often than not dry and hot as hell, so wet weather grip isn't a factor for me, and I'd take grip over longevity any day... so I think the 020's might be more what I'm after...

I did send a fax to Bridgestone Japan suggesting that given the incredible sales figures for the 12GS and the fact that many owners ride them on the road and even track more than offroad, that they should consider making BT-014's in 12GS sizes...:D

haven't heard back from them mind...

They become available last week, it's in the vendor thread, of ADV.

I didn't appreciate they had only started making them in trailie sizes so recently. The report I saw was a brief report about an article in Das Mottorad which rated the Road Pilot above the BT020 and even rated the D607 above the 020 for raod use. They don't list the 19 inch on the UK web site but I think you can get it over here.

Just had a reply from Michelin UK saying that Pilot Roads are available now for the GS12 (at least in the UK).

1200 GS Tyres

Speaking to the dunlop Guys in Garmisch they are also producing a road tyre in GS sizes

however it wont last longer than D607 and will cost more

and D607's were great on Garmisch trip so i will be sticking with them

had pilot roads on 1100 S and they were good

Chris

PS accroding to dunlop guys D607 for 1200 GS is a special one so if ordering a replacement make sure its the right one

What sizes are they doing the 19 in? And before you get too facetious I mean widths.... Have no idea what side the GS12 takes... so 1150 sizes?

email addy for Bibendum?

Pilot Roads are excellent but they'll wear fairly quickly, and square-off with a few longish motorway trips.

Personally, I don't want to be changing tyres every few weeks. Been there, done that on the KRS and it's a pain, not to mention expensive.

I'm very happy with the 607s that came with my GS and will replace with same. Decent grip, good in the wet and last very well.

Are the road pilots going to wear faster than the 607s cos a 607 rear only lasts me about 4,500 to 5,500 miles? If so I'll stay with the 607 which is a really nice tyre, I just thought a more road biased tyre might be better still.

The impression I was given by the guys at Michedever was that the Pilot Roads are slightly more sticky than 607s, on a par with 020s.

However, unlike 020s, the Pilot Roads can be repaired in the event of puncture.

They tell me that 020s seem to give people 5-6,000 miles life froma rear and approximately 10k miles for a front.

Sorry. Silly me, ignore my post above. I was thinking of the Pilot Sports, not Roads.

I'll still be sticking with the 607s, though.

A tire that I'm surprised wasn't mentioned is the Michelin Anakee.. which is supposed to be on par with the D607.
Has anyone had any experience with them?
I'm also in the process of replacing my rear D607, and am wondering what the right choice would be.

Like most people here, I was also impressed with the D607.

Thanks,

Patrick

Must be an oversight as you can't mention tyres for the GS without someone saying get the Anakees. I've never tried the Anakee but rumour has it they last longer but aren't quite so grippy as the D607 which seems to be more of a road tyre. On the other hand I've just done a BMW club track day at Mallory and a very fasy GS was lapping me with Trailwings (so it depends on the rider and in this case being dry).

My bike came with the Anakees... I wasn't very impressed with them. They seemed OK in the dry, a bit trecherous in the wet. But there was something about them that didn't suit my riding style. I put on Tourances and have been happy with them for the last 6,500 miles.
