Midday Express - Istanbul on the hoof

Anyway. Into the digs and have a bit of a look at the maps. With some jiggery pokery I recon I can hit the Transfugarrassan on way back, and possibly the trans alpina.

Good rest in lovely fresh mountain air.

Looking forward to getting out of “mainland” Europe as it were.

Took a day off posting yesterday as I was at the hospital.

Good news - 4 years clear of cancer

Bad News - Back available to bore you …..

Day 7

East through Slovenia, with a cheeky run through a pass in Austria.

258 miles.

Well I’m glad that the Slovenian’s have Stevie Wonder interpreting their meteorological charts for them. Was supposed to rain this afternoon and cool down. 34 and sunny.

Got rolling at 0730, was still hot, sweating like a soldier at a spelling test all day.

Quick stop at Kranjska Gora, a kind of Buxton without the smell of wee.

Through some passes and great Slovenian roads to a nice hotel.

I asked the neighbour where my place was , her dog defended her well. See pics.

Tomorrow is into Hungary where I had to cross the border off road last year. Hopefully I’m not still there according to records. I smell a dodgy border crossing in the air again….

Hotel is on the Danube, you can swim in it from the hotel, have it a miss last year as I had outstayed my covid visa thingy. …..

Anyway, pics will flesh it out ….

Be safe all, saw a v bad bike crash today, I see plenty at work so don’t want to see any at leisure ….. stopped for an hour and had coffee and chill, an old superstition of mine post accident.

I do like these town statues. There’s a lovely one in Fussen too.

Accommodation basic but up on a hill. Time to get my steps in …….

Ambling along and came across the most beautiful lake.

3 cars parked up with lads washing in the lake. They are 3 brits who were working erecting concert staging in Romania, bought 3 x crappy cars and driving back to the uk in a Lada convoy, using the park my van app and crashing out for free.

Admirable.

A random T55, probably broke down and it was more cost effective to leave it than recover it

I forgot my zap stickers sadly ….

So I went down the hill into town and hey presto ….

There were guys practicing on all the jumps.

Even scarier looking close up.

They are a mad bunch, google the famous Matti Neukanen chap to see …..

Anyway tomorrow is pressing east into Hungary, I’ll aim to end up somewhere around Baja, purely because it sounds like the famous bike race place, head down to a raging thunderstorm.

Hopefully wake up to it having passed and another great day ……

Sorry, the name of this place is Velenje.

Some of the details are on the videos I sent at the time so forgive me if some details are a bit wonky.

Now, Guru Gora, what better attitude to life could anyone hope to have?

Excellent!

Thanks for sharing - and for reminding us in this parish and beyond that we are too often defined by what we don't do, rather than what we can do...

Thanks.

I think most on here will be of a similar disposition, I think having had a shot across the bows just heightens one’s sense of

“oh sod it I’m going”.

Good health to you all.
