Midday Express - Istanbul on the hoof

Nice one, I'm enjoying all of this.

What a great report many thanks
:thumb2:beer:

Thanks Robbo; I don't think 'on the hoof' is for all; there's no 'right' way to do it; but travelling solo it works for me :thumby:

I'm off next week to Picos Pyranees Alps and Schwarzwald with another bike, piloted by a certain Tat Shop lingering, Teutonic KTM legend, so I'm looking forward to that very much. :beerjug:

Day 24

Prague to Nuremberg

230 Miles. (229 wet)

Well what a difference, last night I’m sat out in Prague square in the sun :beerjug:, today I spend the whole day in the rain, occasionally torrential, always wet.

First stop is to visit the site where anthropoid was carried out.

If you look at pics it hasn’t changed much in 80 years. That particular corner was chosen as the staff car had to slow down…….

Just a shame their weapons were not too reliable, still at least Heidrich suffered a lot before exiting.

Again there has been some investment in memorials, helped in no small way by the recent movies.

Onwards..........

So I go sensible, and after 80 miles of soaking A roads I hop onto a dual carriageway.

At the German border I stop and check weather radar. North crap, South crap, but not quite as crap, southern route it is.

One of the benefits of not having a plan, other than “sod it, I’m riding to Istanbul" :thumb

Dambusters plan cancelled, Hitler plan activated :).

Arrive in town, straight to hotel as it stops raining, get kit drying out and jump on the tram into town.

I’m now working on the Karma technique of tram and bus fares, if I cant work it out, I don’t pay them but I buy a homeless person some food, working so far :okay

Town is nice, pleasant stroll along the cobbled streets, coffee by the river and a bit of food.

Tomorrow it’ll be the Hitler speech place, plus a different museum, then onwards to……..errrr no idea. We'll see how it goes …..

Pics include one of me wondering how the astronomical clock moved with me from Prague ???

Be safe all …..

So here is the spot where the attack took place

Heidrich’s arrogance was such that he travelled with the roof down, big mistake.

Here’s a shot from another angle, note the 2 garage doors in background

Testament to German builders ……

I do like these “standing in history” type of things.

Very glad I made the diversion to see this.

Funded by the recent movie.

It’s been a great part of the visit to Prague.

As I leave Prague it starts raining, and raining …..

Decision is Nuremberg, it’s closer, hopefully interesting, and I’m soaked and pissed off.

So into Nuremberg, somewhere I’ve never been, odd considering my love of modern military history.

Hotel sorted, bimble into town.

I'm thinking do the Hitler thing tomorrow, just soak up the town today.

And very pretty it is too.

Thunderbird 3 puts in a guest appearance.

A coffee on the riverside cafe. Good chance to have a look at the map.

I’m thinking that a bit of dambusting may be in order soon… plan hatched to head NW generally.

I find myself;

“temporarily unsure of my exact position “

Bimble off in general direction of hotel.

Anyway, one last shot then it’s an hours walk back to the digs.

Hoping for better weather tomorrow.

So looking at the map, I recon there's a great route all the way to Winterberg tomorrow, Germany, the most underrated motorcycling country in Europe in my eyes.

Steps in, Netflix and schlarf time.

Bis morgen........

Nice place Nuremburg,
They have an excellent Xmas fayre in the town square

Hiya,

Yes what a lovely place, I think they do Xmas, and indeed quaint town squares' very well

Day 25

Nuremberg to Winterberg

257 Miles

So started by getting my arse going by 0830 to make the monument by 0900, do that and it opens at 10 :blast

So the rally building is impressive but it’s a 30 minute job. Small museum is good and standing where Hitler gave his speeches was iconic, but the place is a mess of building site with associated trucks sand etc.

Worth it but only just …….

Pics are cropped, if not so it would look like a new Tesco being built.

So set off NW no motorways and what a day, I sound like a broken record but it’s probably the best days riding. All fast A roads and a few hilly ones too. Weather perfect , and everything gels with the bike.

Reminds me of why a lot of people ride.

Hitler sorted, I think sod it I’ll do the dambusters too so swing right about 30 deg and book a place near Sorbe I stayed at a few years back. It’s a fantastic spot and the roads in saurland are properly exceptional, a massively underrated area :okay

Stop off for the obligatory pictures.

For 617 to fly those routes at night, to an accurate height and distance was a huge achievement. To do it having just woken up a bunch of angry germans who then proceed to shoot at you is all the more remarkable. 617 Sqn lives on too, still proudly wearing the famous badge.

What a sensational day.

Finished off with curry wurst and baked potatoes, back of the net.

Anyway pics have it.

Be cool y”all

Having got a top parking tip from my Teutonic Deutsch guide on here I get to the rally point.

After walking around until it opened, clown, I take what I think is the only photo of my nav screen.

The place is a building site sadly, I’ll crop some pics to try and give an idea of how it was ….

Pan left and it looks like Tescos are building.

The museum is interesting, new build and as you would expect very well done.

Having ticked the box is onwards. There be some ace roads round here.

These photos are mandatory in this area.

I’ve been to this Dam the least.

I think it’s the nicest one

A passing chap kindly agrees to take a photo for me…..
