There are nearly 40 species of biting midge in Scotland but only five of these are thought to regularly feed on people. Of these the Highland midge, Culicoides impunctatus (or ‘Meanbh-chuileag’ in Gaelic, meaning ‘tiny fly’), is the most bloodthirsty, and the species responsible for most of the bites of people.

3m ultrathon insect repellant,yeh it doesn't smell as pretty as smidge but worn this all over the globe(Belize,Brunei etc) & it does the job.you will always get bitten but its a question of how many times.it quite long lasting depending on environment etc.

Oh so soft never worked for me, neither did jungle formula. Nothing really works for the Highland midge but the boots own brand stuff is the one I have had the most although limited success with.

I've just come back from Glencoe Red Squirrel camp site, a midge fest if ever. Just ignore them, take antihistamine tablets to reduce the effects and man up !!

I was up in Ullapool Tuesday night and they where vicious, even worse the next morning loading the bike up .Had my multitech on ,every time I flipped it up I got a eye and mouthfull of the fuckers ,then a wasp went down my jacket and stung fuck out ma belly.Nae cleggs though ,silent assasins they bastards .

Tend to agree with Busy Builder in that NOTHING stops them from biting you so take a years supply of Piriton tablets to keep the itching down. If you have any Avon skin so soft bin it as it just takes up luggage space.
