Thinking of touring Scotland next year. What's the best time of year to go to avoid being eaten alive?

Before the end of May isn't too bad but it depends where you are and what the weathers like...........Even in south east Scotland we're getting more midges these days. Nowhere near as bad as the ones in the north west though............!

FP.

We went middle of September and it was fine but like everything probably varies from year to year!

Well worth a visit if you get the weather!

Roads seemed quite abrasive but grippy, beware

Between the last of frosts in Spring and after the first frost of Autumn they seem to usually make an appearance. So June might be of as well as September, which seem to be some of the better weather as well.

Cheers for the info, going to the lakes first then heading up the west coast. Glad to see there are people that will give ya a sensible answer.

August is the worst.

Have been living with them for the last 43 years, absolute fucking nightmare beasties. Have stopped me from fishing, cutting the grass, barbecuing, walking, camping, cycling, washing the car / bike, cutting peats and anything else you might do outdoors.

But.. This year I have been been mainly using Smidge. Without doubt the best thing for stopping them. Miles better than Avon or any other shite that is supposed to scare them away.

If you come far enough up north, more often than not it is windy enough to keep them at bay, but with the superb summers we've been having for the last few years (don't tell everyone or they'll all want to come) we have had some severe midge weeks. Don't be put off coming up to God's country though, you might just get lucky and not see any midges, the view is worth it anyway.:flag
