Might seem a daft question, but ....

Below 9v when cranking and time for a new battery.

It dropped to about 8.8 VERY briefly cold cranking but mostly around 10 volt Mark.
I've got a new battery coming anyway so I'll stick it on and see what happens, I'll always have a spare !!

If, it is fully charged between 13.8 and 14.4v the only true way to assert actual voltage is a drop test under full load.

I've just replaced the odyssey on my 12gsa with a jmt lithium battery, cost is roughly similar but weighs next to damn all compared to lead acid or agm.

Roughly similar?

Original BMW Gel battery £69.00
Odyssey for R1150GS £87.60
Motobatt for R1150GS £78.00

JMT Lithium for R1150GS £179.00

When I was at school, that would have made it MORE THAN DOUBLE THE PRICE, rather than 'roughly the same'. You must have had a different maths master. :D

Not if you've got an R1200gs, which I have. Although, they can be purchased for considerably less than £179 on ebay.

Sorry for any confusion.

You're right, you can - and the 1200 battery is considerably cheaper than an 1150 one - but the JMT is still much more expensive. I would be interested to see how long it lasts though. I am still dubous about Lithium batteries with all these different things catching fire when charging! I think I might get one of those Motobatt jobbies next time though.

Main thing is checking output of charger. Not more than nominal 14•5v and 3•6A, this allows for any excess output (+/- 10%)

They have button on top which can show charge state, which is extra cool !

Excuse my ignorance...... What has ? !

Smug. What kind of dvm have you used? I like the graph output. Perfect for the starting test to show the difference

My battery test is the starter button. If it starts, all good. If it doesn't, the cold start ramp is required (the hill :D ) and hopefully the length of ride will be sufficient to put some sparks back in the box.

It's a Bosch PMS100 Scopemeter. Basically a Fluke 98 badged up by Bosch with automotive software.
