I'm thinking of tidying up my handlebars (making room for a small pelican box to mount my music sources in) and I quite fancy using one of Migsel's fine GPS mounts on the speedo rim.........

My Tobinators work extremely well though, mostly i think, (through playing with waving my hand around the air flow at speed) because of the well known laminar effect ......mine are set so I have a larger gap inbetween the screen and the silver backing plate and this sheet of air shoots up the back of the screen and over my head......

So the question is , has anyone had any experience with a GPS mounted on a Migsel's changing the air flow and re-introducing the buffetting??

(The GPS would be right in the middle of this smooth sheet of air it would seem)

this is one of the most complex questions i have seen on here, the answers could be life changing.

And there i was wondering about all the things going on in the world, and how little i could influence them, now i have a chance to change someones life.

Bill, i haven't a fecking clue.

but i await with baited breath, the many and varied answers that will come your way.

:D :D

I think I'm going to come back to this one later when I've managed to pull my jaw up and have stopped flipping between laughing and screaming.

;)

Bill, remind me, which model GPS will you be using?

I think that the 2610 offers a better aero-profile and lower Cdi than the rather slab-backed SPIII.

As air density comes into the equation, one has to ask at what altitude will you be mostly riding?

:D

Just remember folks, that this guy weighs 15 stone, and he worried about areodynamics!!!!!!!!!

In my humble opinon it wouldn't a bit of differance. but then again it might,

no it doesn´t interfere with laminar flow, introduce vortices change the pressure differential ot whatever.

My only comment is that I still have my handlebar ball mount. MiGSel´s porduct is by a considerable difference better than bar mounting it on normal trips. However when you ride off road it moves a lot. I keep the bar mount with a long ram mount for off roading. Dont know if it really is necessary, but makes me feel better.

I agree Bob, the speedo mount is perfect on paved roads, but off-road the whole dash moves around too much and hence the GPS does even more because of the RAM arm lever.

So I think your solution is ideal. :thumb

And no, I don't think it changes the airflow by any noticeable amount.

Cheers,
Michel

Is this a case of divide and conquer!

Thanks Bob, and Migsel......

Jenks....not so worried about aerodynamics, but it's the buffetting that I don't want to re-introduce by filling up the air flow hole that the tobinators create........

And Greg's right.......leaving some spare for VAT increases

:D :D

I have one of MiGSels mounts on my 1100 and I use a GPS60c with an MRA Vario screen. I have noticed absolutely no problems with airflow or buffeting with this set up. The speedo mount is great it mounts the GPS in a pefect position for easy glances at the data. Top bit of kit :thumb

seriously I havent noticed any negative effects. The back of the GPS gets covered in dead insect life, but other than that its all good news! Its one of those simple and great ideas and very easy to fit.
