hi there

im looking at a 06 gs 1200 but it has 51,500 miles on the clock is this good/bad
its got all its stamps in the book and he wants £5445 for it ?? any advice ...

Don't fret the mileage unless you intend doing 20k per year from here on in. These are good engines for high milages. Look for condition and service history.

For pricing, have a look at what they go for on the FS&W section here. Pretty solid guide.Like this one

agreed

Don't fret the mileage . . .

. . . if the bike is in good condition, has long MOT, maybe long TAX, has a believeable service history and maybe a few desirable extras; desirable to you that is. But I'd still want to knock the price down closer to 5K.

My own 06 GS happens to be low mileage as I don't get out much and it only passed 11,000 miles this afternoon during a 275 mile run. Will be a good buy for someone one day in distant future :)

As already said, no inherent worries about the mileage as these engines should reach 100k unless you are unlucky, but check disks that may now be close to the limit, certainly the rear, maybe fronts too if it's been used hard.

Ask about any issues with FD and give the rear wheel a good heave to check for lateral movement. Although 1mm of movement at the rim is often quoted as 'within manufacturer's tolerance', personaly I'd walk away just in case it's more serious, or use it as a bargaining tool to lower the price

My 2006 GSA has just sailed past 52k with no problems and is running as sweet as the proverbial nut.

Have no fear of the mileage as a higher mileage bike is often better than one of the same age with next to nothing on the clock:thumb

I think a few miles on the clock with FSH and all warantee/recalls done is a good buy.
BMWs seem better with a lot of use.
My K1200GT is much better now with 27k than it was with 2.7k

thanks guys il pop along for a look this weekend , and a wheel shake :D

I chopped my '06 1200 in last year with 48,500 on the clock and the motor was sweet as a nut. I only changed due to the price offered and my annual mileage which tends to be around 18,000. Go for it :) You'll see from this that it got better with the miles, other than the final drive :D
