My current Bike is a 2008 Bmw r1200Gs Adventure, with OEM mirrors.

Bought some new fully adjustable Ramball mounted Mirrors that fit onto their own brackets, no problem there, however I wanted some plain black plugs for the holes left after taking off the OEM mirrors.

On arrival of 2 new plugs 1 of which is reverse threaded, seems the thread is completely different to what is required, could not make them fit, they are M10 bolts and 1.25 mm thread. Only cost £14.00 delivered from Amazon.

Question: Did Bmw in their wisdom use a different thread from what is compatible for my mirror holes, different from a 1.25 mm Fine thread Pattern?

Hoping to source locally M10 Bolts with 1.55 cm overall length, with a 1.25 mm thread, but which thread pattern will fit?

Failing that will just stuff em with a rubber plug. Easy option if I can find such a thing. Only something required to keep muck and rain out from threads, in case mirrors go back on.
Temporary refitted the bottom bolts off the OEM mirrors, and rubbers.

Thanks, was thinking the same, after I bought the plug bolts. May have to have a trip to Halfords tomorrow.

I suppose they could make handy holders for 2 spare earplugs. :green gri

For reference if it helps.

Might be handy information if anyone is thinking about swapping mirrors, below the mirrors bought, collapsible/adjust out of the way when going off road. Quickly removed if required.
Great quality mirrors at a fraction of OEM prices.
Please note the M10 adapters supplied do not fit the mirror holes, supplied brackets need to be used. Brackets do fit close enough to the original mirror holes.

Perfect that's exactly what I needed, to see.....M10 x 1.5mm pitch makes so much sense, no wonder they did not fit. Kind of you to go to the trouble for me....thanks again.
No worries, I’ve been helped out in this parish, glad to help in anyway, plus I’ve seen nicely machined parts ruined by the simple thing of screwing something into it because of subtle differences in thread dimensions.

Adjustable mirror are very definitely a good thing. I went for the TT folding mirrors (which do fit the OEM mounts). Probably cost more than yours! But very happy with them

I know the price is higher, but double take mirrors (of which those look like being knock offs) are a better alternative, especially if one is bothered by the leftover mirror brackets, as they will screw onto the original mirror fitting.

The stem is longer too, and the new model is easier to adjust on the ram, as the two RAM spheres (mirror or handlebar side) are of different sizes, so the mirror-side loosens up before and you can just move the mirror.

Worth considering.

I installed a set of double take mirrors on my GS after continuously knocking/dislodging/bending the OEM mirrors while offroading, and very happy with those.
I considered, at some point, to install the cheap folding mirrors I use my DR, but... nah :D

Initially I intended fitting bar end mirrors, but those proved to be a misfit as well, broke one of the brackets trying to modify it to fit. Forgot that idea.

Reason for change of mirrors, I dropped my bike in my shed, last year, while placing on the centre stand on the newly installed turntable, slipped off turntable, fell over onto the left mirror which took much of the weight of the bike onto it, resulting in a bend. I took the full weight onto my left foot trapping me underneath, some thread on here regarding it, another story.

I had noticed the double take mirrors, and they are by sure a more robust mirror, but the Scot in me parting ways with his hard earned cash, went for the cheaper alternative, £28.00 against £140.00 for basically the same type of mirrors.

Time will tell if my choice was right or wrong, now I at least know there are alternatives to purchase, hopefully other members can make their own choices in the future with help of this thread, which is it's other main goal.

Thanks again for all your inputs, which were very welcome.
