Hi,
I am new F650GS Dakar owner and so far its a little frustrating. Anyone ideas would be welcome.
Problem is, bike starts ok off the button, idles perectly for approx 10 seconds then starts misfiring, backfiring and emitting black smoke. If I increase rpm to 3000 rpm and above it runs fine all the way to the redline.
The bike had been stood for about 2 months before i bought it.
I have replaced the airfilter and cleaned out the airbox, done an oil and filter change, fitted a new spark plug, and put new clean fuel in the tank.
I have cleaned the throttle body, checked the inlet manifold rubber for holes/tears, cleaned the electrical connections to the air valve, TPS and injector. I have cleaned and checked all the connectors associted with the ignition and engine control unit (BMS). All are good but problem remains.
The black smoke indicates uburnt fuel so I am thinking and ignition fault causing lack of spark below 3000 rpm or its been overfuelled.
As it runs ok for the first 10 seconds I am thinking overfuelling and suspect the throttle position sensor (TPS). I removed the connector from the TPS and started the bike. It ideled perfectly at 3000 rpm. (presumably this is the default idle speed when no signal form the TPS) Because it was at 3000 rpm it didnt tell me much.
So I am now working my way through the ignition, new HT lead, if problem remains, new coil, if problem remains it must be TPS.
Any help or suggestions would be welcome.
Thanks
