Following my red hot cat episode, I've spent a few hours going through all the service items (replaced standard system with Remus can & Y-piece, changed plugs, adjusted valve clearances and balanced the throttles with a Twinmax balancer). Fired up, and it's been running perfectly for a couple of weeks. Until today.
Went for a longer run (I've only been going 2-3 miles to work up until today) and started to get a bad misfire. Not just popping back through the can as you'd expect with the Remus, (although it's doing more of that as well), but when filtering it's definitely missing. It cut out a couple of times, but started back up on the button, as long as you give it some throttle.
Got it back to the garage and pulled the plug caps one at a time whilst running. It'll run on N/S cylinder (just) but when I pulled the O/S plug cap off it didn't make an great deal of difference. There was sparking between the plug cap and my (insulated) pliers, and some of the rubber where the plug lead enters the head is lifting (got a bit of a belt off it as well
)
Not being too 'up' on the ignition system on the GS, I'm assuming that the coil is built into the plug lead. Is this correct, and if so, could this be what the problem is? If so, are they easy to swap out?
I reckon this could have been my original cat problem, and that all the pulling about fixed it temporarily, but now I've done some miles it's returned. Any ideas from the GS massive?
