2011 R1200GSA slight misfire

It is the Atcam sensor linked in one of the other replies here
Yes, that’s the one that’s discussed. The lad that does them Ivan is so helpful and not in anyway trying to push the sensor in fact the opposite. He was listing off lots of things for me to try before buying one.

That buys a lot of credit with me.

Mines still giving the occasional splutter when you come to a stop.

Dam, was hoping this would solve, I’ll continue to see how it behaves over coming days.

Bike is just so nice on the go, that’s a couple of hundred done on the twisties today.
get hold of ethanol free fuel - the difference is huge - none of the air cooled boxers landed in the european mkt with a map or engine tune designed to cope with joke fuel

today it looks like esso sold me some 99 octane stuff without ethanol and its like riding a different bike - strangely still remember how ethanol junk brought a lot more recalcitrance - but seems many have forgotten.....

the difference in rough running is all in the <3k rpm <10% throttle area - then 3.5 to 5k rpm >75% throttle is where you should notice its got a fair bit more grunt

👍
Yeh, I put 32ltrs of 99 Exxon in yesterday so let’s see how that goes.

not well publicised but what fuel reaches what petrol stations varies across the UK - much of the fuel turns up as a base blend fuel. Less well understood the magic happens as its pumped into each different Forecourt - here specific mixes of additives go in as its pumped into which ever Brand station they deliver too

Much of west berks gets its fuel for Shell or Esso stations from the Exxon facility at Fawley Hampshire via the Petroleum Storage Depot (PSD) near Padworth and Aldermaston in West Berkshire, operated by Exolum Pipeline System Limited

When E5 first came out much of the UK (except places like wales and nearby) was really all E0 - because there wasn't enough death fuel to go around.

Sadly Exxon expanded Fawley death fuel production and by 2025 the whole of the UK could up the % of the rubbish in all our petrol. At the time Esso updated their websites to remove the explanation that most of its 99 octane fuel had been E0. Changing to say something like death fuel content has now increased to an ave of 3% but stated it can be from 1% to 5% and it varies because it depends what they can be bothered to do on the day

and unless impacted by Donald's criminality, I don't know why I managed to get some decent petrol for the first time in years when I was in Burnham Bucks yesterday

If you have a GS911, can you not run the datalogger function & record a ride with splutters,

Having all values avilable might give some clues

Yeh, that’s a good shout. I’ll need to try and suss out how it’s done again.

Oven only got my phone no laptop.

It’s actually been not bad today, 330 miles and only one instance of it misbehaving. Right at a bloody junction..

I’ve run the bike 1600 miles this last week or so in France.

It had a little hick up first day then it’s been perfect. So either Marts TPS sorted it or the fuel. I’ve been running nothing but Esso 98 and sometimes 99 this time and bikes been great.

Who knows, think I’ll get one of the Hall effect TPS sensors anyway.

Cheers for thoughts everyone and especially Santa for the TPS your a star and yet another great member on this forum it’s just such a good place.

Beers on me..

After my recent dramas with mine I got to the stage where it seemed to be running best it ever has done but I wasn't quite happy with the idle, it just didn't seem quite right then I discovered calibrate idle adjusters 1 and 2 within the GS911, something I haven't noticed before, did this and also calibrated the exhaust flap valve and it seems great. I didn't fit a hall effect TPS but went for a genuine BMW one as its not possible to tighten up the pattern ones from motorworks (how daft is that?).

And yes the 98 or 99 E5 makes a massive difference on my bike, feels like a different bike.

People keep telling me these Twincam bikes are bombproof and the best of the original GS ever built

Is that not the case ?

did two trip 90 mile round trips to aylesbury in last 10 days on back roads - weather and traffic was much the same for both trips

took the twin cam first outing - hated every minute, missed more gear changes than I can remember - bike vibrates and buzzes with nasty high frequency annoyance, Std BMW brake pads don't function, ESA suspension is a sick joke compared to my good one - can't use the power its in the wrong place (the TC has lots more especially with the right petrol) - but its not where I can put it down out of tight bends - got back to lower the stupid gear lever and realised its not a real turn buckle but a budget bit of threaded bar that can't help - and even when you drop one end, the bar isn't long enough - chopped up some threaded bar, can't be bothered to test since I got the lever to sit where it is on the other bike. And remember the throttle is stupid heavy as they changed the springs on the throttle body for no good reason.

next ride took the 2007 GS - this bike stops with no longer available brembo SC race pads, the bike rips off the corners as the engine makes power where you want it - the throttle is perfectly weighted, the old clunky gearbox is miles better - the TC rear bevel with a breather, brings fractionally shorter gearing that matches the engine to perfection. My aftermarket WP three way damper rear shock is light years better than ESA could ever dream of being, and even the wilbers now on much less than recco single damper setting functioned OK – enjoyed the ride back chucking it about like the good old days

and the R1300GS at 10 months sits unwanted with less than 300 miles on it because they are just crap – no brakes, euro5+ doesn’t work, and the comfort seat is the most disgusting abomination known to man - oh and its engine is so wide, HGVs give way coz they can get down the road if you are on it - this junk needs to come with a wide load restriction / red flag
