My Rear Road Attack is just coming to the end of its useful life on my GSA, been very good, no complaints but not sure i am convinced by the road bike manners it has and tempted to try Trail attacks after so many rave reviews on here. Thing is the front still has Road Attack lettering on the tread and is barely worn. Tempted to try Trail attack on the back and leave Road Attack on the front. Anyone tried it or got views?

Hey man. I managed to end up with a trail up front and road pushing up the rear. It was ages before i realized. It rides solid, although somebody may tell me it's not a wise thing to do.:thumb

The Trail Attacks I've got fitted have both done 7000 miles and the rear has only recently started to flat off. There's still lots of life left in it tho :thumb

Sounds quite doable then, in fact thinking some more about it, i may be a good thing to have a 'road' front, theoretically a bit stickier on the front and the Trail on the back, bit like mixing 020 and 010's although i know that was often for size reasons....

AFAIK, the Road Attack rear tyre has one type of rubber on it's wear pattern, the Trail Attack has 3 zones (middle = hard, shoulders = soft) due to baking at different temperatures (called 'continuous compound'). As a result you'll get more miles out of Trail Attack.

But it also means that Road Attack will give identical adherence over the whole tyre surface, whereas Trail Attack's middle warms up slowly, and has less grip.
From personal experience I won't be buying Trail Attack again. Too many weird slides when cold.

According to Conti, the Road Attack has softer rubber, is more sports oriented (more fun) with almost 'supersport grip', the Trail Attack more Touring oriented (more miles), with deeper profile (quoted from German Conti emails).

I`d have a road front and trail rear :thumb2 I`ve been really impressed with my TA`s

If you are worried about the road manners of the road attacks, I fail to see how a less road orientated tyre such as the trail attack will help.
FWIW I've got road attacks on at the moment and find they work OK. They certainly give better road grip than the trail attacks I had on before. Upside of road attacks are that they are hard wearing and I've had 7,000 miles out of the rear. Downside is that then rubber compound is hard and gives less grip in the cold, certainly less than than the Bridgestone 020's which I had previously and when the rear only lasted 3,00o miles.

I should explain what i mean about road manners. I find the turn in on the road attacks to be sharper than on other trail type rubber and you could argure thats a good thing, but on my GSA i like the slightly slower response so thought aboy the Trail attack but keeping the almost untouched Road Attack on the front, i will do that now i think and let you know how i get on. Its not not i dont apprecaite a good tyre and quick turn in, having just taken dleivery of my HP2 Sport, i am staggered how quick and precise that is and a joy to ride...but maybe not for 3000 miles across Europe this summer!
