Bike went through a lot of oil durin the week. Noticed no oilin the sight glass this morn. Stopped to buy oil. I ended up putting 15w50 semi in her.

About a tea spoonof water got into the oil when I went to fill the oil up.now the oil is frothy!

Is it bad to mix the oils or should I drop the oil and fill up with a fresh batch? What's the pronosis with the oil? Will it evaporate?
Thanks
fk.

I think the bike had 10 40 in her. That's not going to pose a problem is it? It's not ideal I know but...

Better some oil than none at all, excluding chip oil :blast

A reasonably long run will dry out the oil.

BTW if you have reasonably hot weather, like we did in the UK last week, then 20w / 50 reduces the engine noise :)

mixing oils is technically not ideal, but in practice it is absolutely fine. people do it all the time.

is it the oil that is frothy or is it the creamy milkiness that occurs when you get water in the oil?

Sorry I didn't reply earlier. the bike has never run better. i can't help feeling like the engine just burned off a load of oil 'cos it was roasting hot. As someone pointed out in a thread somewhere, it's an oil cooled engine. Makes sense to me that it would burn oil to cool her down more. Like I said, she'd never run better than today. Fuel tank was nearly empty though. Even adjusted the brake lever to suit my servo a few weeks ago(I use the number 1 setting) Happy days.

it's just a creamy milkiness. Saw it before on the last bike. I'll just ride the crap out of it like I normally do:thumb
