Need new rubber on rear have trail wing on front new, want a tourance at the back can i mix?

Probably can, but you've got a bike that's probably at least worth £5000 and you want to save at maximum £100 on a new tyre?

i never bother with my cheap diversion in fitting the same tyre, it will either work ok(allways has for me) or not, not mixed tyres on the gs yet though, only just got it :thumb2

Stop being such a mingebag.

Throw the shitty front Deathwing to feck and fit a pair of Tourances ... or even better,a pair of Pirelli MT90 Scorpions.

I'll be surprised if you notice the difference, but am interested in Tarka's alternative tyres................ :nenau

Tourances seem fine, but give me the squits when I run them over tar lines

Seen how much contact you have between the tyres and the road?

If it doesn't work I guess I'd be happy knowing that my only source of control was through a dubious set up :mmmm

Why dubious? Same tyre sizes, just different makes. The tyre manufacturers are just covering their backs when they talk of only using matched tyres. It's only because no one can possibly test every combination that Tom, Dick, etc. may wish to try, that they protect themselves through fear of litigation.

Just coz someone may have scrimped & saved to buy their dream bike, does not mean that they can afford to chuck a perfectly good tyre.

I did as you did, I put a new Tourance on the back, whilst wearing out the Trailwing on the front:P :P :P :P

There are so many variables/inputs between what your front wheel and back wheel are doing - that it would take Rossi to say that there was a tyre miss-match :rob

(I reckon anway...................:augie )

Before they made O20s to fit front and rear...I ran trailwing on the front and a '160' O20 on the rear to good effect....:nenau

Hi Cool, what profile 160 did you use?

I dropped one to /60....as can be seen here on 'CCI' put back to standard to be part-ex'd for 'CCII'

Tyres

I ran Tourances on both wheels of my 1150gs, but on the advice of my local Tyre shop, I've now got a Pirelli Road on the back to hopefully get more mileage. I've not noticed any difference in the bikes behaviour in London, it still grips fine wet or dry, and leans fine as well.

I've mixed Tourances with Mich's when I've had to but get a bit more wear out of the Torances so prefer them... only tried the Trailwings once & didn't particularly like 'em on high-speed cornering but that was all... should be no problem mixing 'em but shift over to Tourance when you're next changing.

mixed tyres on my beemur and xj600,, ride all year in rain/sleet/snow etc on the xj600.. not noticed a problem,, however if i were to have a slide in the rain/sleet or snow i've no doubt some smart arse would say it's because you've mixed tyres. :rob

The one thing doing 1200 miles a week in cold, wintry, diesel soaked London taught me about mixing rubber is "dont put the stickier boot on the back"
