Mobile apps - recommend me a self-buider

I am not working at all and need a project so I thought that I would have a go at building a simple phone app and have spent a couple of hours google-ing app builders.

Anyone here have any recommendations?

I don't mind paying for an app builder but would like a try before I buy option first.

in the mean time I have created my first free mobile app using monk.ee not too happy with it though so will move on to another choice.

Looked at a few more app making sites, basically they all offer the same thing, which is in fact a HTML5 mobile site that shows your fb and twitter feeds, as well as other stuff linking from your own site or information you provide. Not really an app and certainly no better than a responsive website that works across all platforms.
