Just a Thought. Orange are promoting a Free PAYG Simcard, and in their Blurb......
Get an amazing free SIM, from Orange. Top up by just £10 and we'll throw in £5 credit. Plus you'll get free internet and 300 texts worth £30.

Does this mean I can use the Sim in my Mobile Broadband Dongle.

Cheers Ken.

Probably, won't hurt to try. O2 were doing something similar, but the drawback is that the credit only lasts a month, and that often makes it a waste of money for me. Mobile broadband can be quite speedy in the right location, but in many places the data rate is too slow for decent browsing.

check the term as most of these things only give you internet on a phone and connecting a laptop to it is a big no no and they pull the service quickly.

In these days of smartphones with web browsers, how can they tell what you are doing? My N900 supports Youtube and BBC video, same as a pc, I don't think they can identify the destination of the network traffic. Certainly never been disconnected for it myself, although I don't do it that often as I have an O2 dongle that seems to get mobile signals better than my phone.

Of course if you start downloading huge files they might kick off.

they can tell because every time you use a browser it reports what the browser is and what operating system it is on IE 8 on windows XP for example doesnt take much to work out what it is even if they just took the browser info its a dead give away. Your right though they will let a certain amount slide but if your hitting the connection they will soon have a word.

True, although it can be spoofed if you're so minded. Although I confess to having my doubts that the network operators go in for that level of traffic analysis unless they reckon you're taking the proverbial. It would cost them too much to do it routinely, even if the relatively slow network speed makes it a bit easier to do in real time.

These so called "unlimited" internet access contracts are subject to a fair use policy, which seems to be rather arbitrary, I'd not want a current standard mobile connection as my main internet link, and if they get the speeds up to where they are better than the slowest rural broadband connection their networks are going to get swamped.
