Ok, there hasn't been a "Yea, Mobitec are really good" thread for, oooh a month or so, so here we go.

Just had a quote from Pat for a 36K service, with alternator belt and fuel filter because I ain't got no evidence that this was done at 24K, for £360.

At the same time he'll supply and fit a pair of Tourances for £280. Now you may say "Joe Bloggs in Cambridge wiill do those for £220" but I took a 2" screw at an angle through the back wheel and my puncture repair barely got me home over 5 miles with 10 psi left in it (these bikes handle like pigs with 10psi in the back tyre on tarmac, for your future information) so it ain't going anywhere in a hurry, even the ten miles to Essential Rubber in Islington.

Now my local bike shop is Woodford Motorcycles and Rider Power say they are the best in the area but I have a CB500 in for service with them and a minor Honda service is going to cost me over £150 so I am impressed by this.

May I recommend Pat (again in this forum) for consideration by those in the Home Counties (North and South, to quote Come Dancing).

I look forward to feeding back after the service and on the "Bloody Hell What's Up with Tourances" thread elsewhere

Judge, I have a choice between paying this or running with a puncture repair that isn't going to last till I get the damn bike anywhere sensible. I could take the wheels off and leave the bike sitting without them in the street while I chuck them in the back of the car, but chances of it being there when I get back are low - this is Essex, wounded vehicles are attacked and stripped by hyenas the minute they are spotted. I could order them cheap and have Pat fit them but he may as well have an extra bit of profit - I'd rather he was happy to deal with me in case I need to call him out again in a hurry.

And this is being funded by a tax rebate, so as far as I am concerned the Inland Revenue is paying for it.

Some people say I have more money than I know what to do with, but that's a nasty rumour. Ah well, back to polishing the second Rolls Royce with Tara Palmer Tomkinson's silk underwear...

That's more than a bit of profit Trotsky. That's about £100 worth.
Especially when you consider how easy it is to take the wheels off the GS.

I was quoted about the same by a smug git at vines a few weeks ago, followed by "you can get them done cheaper elsewhere yes, but if they damage one of the abs sensors you will have to bring it here anyway" does this happen a lot or was he just being a
jerkit

Pat's good - that I know and you've made an astute choice in selecting him for your service work -that is without doubt. But when I see tyre fitment at over £100 over the going rate I choke - it's what an MBW dealer can be known to charge but it make me choke.

But you've weighed it all up and are happy to pay so no bother - just don't want other folks thinking its a good deal.

I paid £170 ride in, ride out for my last Tourances into a well equipped and clean workshop with trained and experienced staff and for the puncture scenario the card in my wallet comes to the rescue :thumb

Good point, well made. The only saving grace is that it is only about £60 over the cheapest supply and fit quote I got elsewhere round here (within "riding on a punctured tyre distance" anyway)

The real point is I don't think £360 is too bad for a 36K service with added bits and significantly less than Bracken wanted...

I'm sorry, but at those prices, you've got to be havin' a bubble bath!

Avon Distanzia's, belting tyre, ride in/ride out £160. Breakdown insurance free with C Nash in exchange for £198 per annum fully comp for my GS1150. Glad I live oop North. Glad I live int country.
