I have been riding my 64 plate GS all year around and when February came I developed a problem with the modes not changing when I pulled the clutch in. It had been working perfectly before.
I took it back to Vines (Guildford) under warranty and they changed the clutch switch only for the problem to re-occur.
I returned it to Vines and the mechanics tested it and said there was no problem, I took it for a test ride and there was still a problem.
The mechanic then watched me ride around the car park and when I came back he highlighted what the problem was.
I ride with two fingers on the clutch and two on the bars (as promoted on the BMW ORS).
Because the temperature dropped dramatically in February I wore thicker gloves and the result was that the clutch lever did not come back far enough to make the clutch switch, although the engine dis-engaged.
The difference in the glove thickness was probably about 5mm, which was enough to not make the switch. Evidently the switch can't be adjusted.
Thanks to Vines for their patience when dealing with a Muppet.
