Any practical advantages? Otherwise with it being a lot shinier than the rest of the engine its obvious that someone is desperately trying their best to impress, the desperation will show which may not be agood thing if you don't want people to see your desperation..

Design seems to have become the art of taking something that functions perfectly well and looks fine then replacing it with something that doesn't work as well and looks fucking dreadful. This is true in so many areas, not just motobikes and cars but domestic appliances, bathroom and kitchen fittings and even electrical outlets and light fittings - bane of my life!
What the 'designer' of these rocker covers was thinking of, god only knows, or perhaps his very expensive cnc mill was lying idle.
