I'm considering getting a Mondello S, and would appreciate feedback from anyone who has done some touring on one. At the moment, I have a 1250 RT, but I'm fancying a change from BMW. I would be getting one with the Moto Guzzi luggage. So, what's it like over distance? Any issues with quality/reliability?

I've not ridden a Mandello but have toured on a Stelvio which shares the same drivetrain along with some other components such as panniers, and it's nice for traveling. It's comfortable with good wind management, easy to pack with the bags and rear rack, and gets good mpg. I believe the Mandello will be closer to a BMR RS than your RT.

Love my Stelvio. 6000 miles on it now, and 15 months old. Been fabulous.
Build quality is at least on a par with (recent) BMW's
My 2nd Guzzi (last was a V85TT) and very pleased with the brand in general.
Gearing is good, lovely engine, smooth gearbox (once run-in), fab handling
I doubt you'll be disappointed

I had one for two years before swapping for a Stelvio, it never missed a beat, I used it for 3 reasonable distance euro tours in that time, (without pillion) and had no issues. Some people moan about the screen, but there are many aftermarket options available, but it's a bike not a car, I never had a problem with the stock screen, I'm 6' tall. I did fit the heated comfort seat, more because I wanted the taller seat, the heat was blistering on the hot setting too :)

The engine is the star of the show, without a doubt, and feels way stronger than 115bhp would have you believe. the weak point on the touring front is range, the tank could do with a couple of extra litres, as range is between 150 to 180 miles depending on riding style etc. Personally after 150 ish miles, my bladder dictates I need a stop anyway :)

I am smitten by my Stelvio though, and once again, that motor is the star of the show.

If you go for a test ride, ignore the clunk into first gear, it's totally normal as the clutch has no reduction so spins at engine speed.

Are you in tomorrow Mark? I’ve not ridden one but I can tell you about the Guzzi experience. Give me a ring or swing by.

Btw, I’ve got three of ‘em in my garage now.
