2005 GS12 (in the very fast yellow). Covered around 200 miles per week between July 2005 and now with absolutely no problems. The bike is used daily and kept outdoors under a cover. I do not have an optimate.

I was on holiday for a just over a week and yesterday afternoon, I thought I should uncover my baby and take her out for a short spin. She started first time and I covered four miles or so, basically so I could check the oil level.

When I came to start her this morning, all I got was the dreaded click click click sound which I have noted on previous threads. :spitfire

She started with no trouble as soon as I put the jump leads on from my car.

Will be speaking to dealer later.

There is something seriously screwed with the battery as both my friends 1200GS had a problem in the last 2 weeks.

I wonder ....

Like most people I guess I haven't done a full RTFM, but when I turned it off on Sunday, then returned to it 15 minutes later I noticed that the side/parking lights were on.

I assume this is to do with having an indicator running when the ignition was turned off??

If so, this is a rather easy mistake to make and I wonder if this is the causation for (some of) the flat 12GS batteries?

The side light is activated by pressing the left indicator button AFTER the ignition has been turned off.

Ta!. I knew I'd get round to reading-the-fecking-manual one day. Must have caught it as I lowered the bike onto the sidestand. Easy enough to do. :nenau

Had exactly the same experience a year ago - same mileage, July '04 new, kept outdoors: new battery required under warranty.

Fixed up an Optimate III and the battery lasted for a year. Now on 3rd!

Hope that the updates will help- guess I'll know in about a year's time.

Seems to be one of the (many) idiosyncracies(?) of what is otherwise a great bike.
